Nothing but good experiences with Ruger pistols. They are typically underrated due to the lack of popularity in their polymer frames but the quality is as good as any.

I have a Ruger P98. I have never had an issue with it. It is accurate and reliable, two things I want in a gun. I put around 700 rounds through it be fore cleaning it for the first time and it never failed to eject.

If I had one negative thing to say about the gun is that it is a little bulky.

Ruger revolvers are about as tough as you can get without spending big money on something like Freedom Arms.

You won't find boxes of ammo that say not to use it in a ruger revolver. The same cannot be said for some smiths.

The general rule of thunb is Ruger for toughness, smith for refinement.

I have 4 ruger pistols, have had trouble with 3 of them

Ruger Mark II jams a lot , have had 2 gunsmiths try to fix it, no luck

Ruger GP 100, cylinder would slip, sent it back to ruger fixed free of charge but it took 8 months

Ruger LCP, just a piece of crap, multiple jams, I no longer have any confidence in it and do not carry it , but have not brought to a gunsmith

Ruger Bilsey .22 revolver, never had a problem

That is very unlucky.

I have two Ruger's that I have been rough on and never given them the TLC that they deserve and they have worked flawlessly.

Actually, I agree, even with the history I have had, at some point I am going to buy a big bore revolver and the super red hawk will be at the top of the list

I've only shot a ruger sr45 once, and it jammed after 4 or 5 shots. according to someone I know, you've got to break them in with a couple hundred rounds to resolve the issue.

Compared to S&W revolvers - Rugers tend to be heavier, more durable and with "worse" (heavier, less clean and crisp) triggers - all other things being equal. Obviously, the LCR challenges some of that, but when you consider it competes with the airweights, probably a lot of the same comparisons apply.

Let us assume I was picking a revolver for the Zombie Apocalypse - I would pick whatever Ruger would fit the role, because I would be more confident in it lasting through abusive situations and with deferred maintenance than a competing S&W.

If I was going to shoot a revolver for a living - like every day, dozens/hundreds of rounds per day as an instructor, demonstrator, paid endorser? S&W all day because they are much sweeter shooting (particularly the PC models).

Pistols are not revolvers, but Ruger revolvers are very reliable. More of a clunky trigger than the Smith and not as aesthetically pleasing but good revolvers.

The LCR trigger is fantastic. Never had a problem with it other than it wasnt fun to shoot with .38+p rounds

Absolutely true of Ruger revolvers - they are overbuilt and can take some serious abuse.

As for their auto loaders, I used to own an SR9c and only sold it due to a timely coincidence with some friends. It was a good handgun though and the friend I sold it to has never had an issue. Here's a comparison I did with a S&W M&P:

SR9c vs. M&P9c

As for the new line of Ruger auto loaders, the Ruger American pistol, I think the first 3/4 of the gun is excellent and gets dicey at the grip. It's like they forgot how a human hand is shaped and missed the boat on it. They also should've reused the SR magazines rather than creating a new proprietary one. From all reports they are reliable pistols and are well built but fall short in ergonomics.

I think I'm getting a .22 SR pistol AND rifle this year.

They're Not Pistols

The vast majority of revolvers are not pistols, because the chambers contained within the cylinder are separate from the gun's barrel. Those revolvers that do contain multiple barrels in the cylinder are most often referred to as pepperboxes rather than revolvers.
