We somehow got a cicada in the house and I told my sheltie to eat it. She picked it up but spit out and it flapped around more. I told her to eat it again and she ate it. We hardly train her at all.

They're "border collie" smart, for sure.

My lab eats them the first time I tell her to

Is she pretty skittish around strangers? The few I've been around were all pretty skittish but damn good dogs.

Not skittish at all. Just not too interested in anyone or any dog unless there is food to eat or a game to be played.

My Pit mix goes apeshite after any insect. Like clacking his jaws. Not sure I would say is the smartest.... But a great dog for sure.

Big cicada hatches are a protein boost for A LOT of the food chain.

My friend was was laughing that his dogs weren't eating all their food because of their new found cicada diet earlier this year

Most herding breeds are incredibly smart.

You wouldn’t even have noticed it if you had a border collie.

we've got a 2 year old corgi that came from herding stock at a sheep and goat farm.

She's much smaller and sportier than the backyard bred corgis I normally see, and I'll be damned if she's not one of the smartest, if not the smartest, dogs I've ever owned. Just a brilliant pup.

My first heeler was the smartest dog I’ve ever met.

My second heeler isn’t dumb, but she’s more pet than smart herding dog.

My 5 month heeler puppy is either the smartest of the bunch, or dumb as a box of rocks. The jury is still out.
