Anyone have experience with or opinions on Avid boats. Interested in an Avid 23 Magnum bay boat.

Friend has one and likes it. Had some issues with his Minn Kota raptor. Also the AVID letters fell off on maiden voyage. Another friend has brought his 21’ AVID back to dealer 2x and finally back to AVID for leaks. Besides those issues I think they like their boats.

A lawyer friend of mine bought one and almost got to the point of suing the dealer he bought it from. It spent more time at the dealer than it did on water. They (dealer) finally sent the boat back to avid and for his trouble (lawyer) they sea decked the whole boat for free.

Personally not a fan of beer can bay boats of any brand.

Get a glass boat or if you want metal, get a custom built one

I own and regularly run my Avid 23 FS. Very fishable and you can get in the gulf on good days. It’s not a fiberglass bay boat so it rides a bit rough and wet but overall we have been happy with it. To me, its biggest limitation would be someone thinking they are getting a “wave crusher” which it is not. That being said, I can get into 12 inches of water and sight fish reds in the same boat I fish East Timb Island, so very versatile. Would recommend. The platform for fishing is really its biggest advantage.

Friend has one and I've fished in it several times. Really a lot of boat for the price. Really like the console design where it attaches to floor. It's indented and gives your toes some extra room when walking around it.

My buddy has had his for less than a year and it’s going back to the factory because the hull is coming apart at a welded seam.

I am a dealer I’ve dealt with a lot of aluminum brands, I’d say they’re better than most in the segment but not perfect as you can tell by the comments here. QC from every manufacturer has suffered since Covid as well. Component wise they’re using a lot better stuff than most alum builders. Good dealers will catch a lot of the QC but not all.

The factory is very good about handling problems, you’re essentially dealing with the same family that owned NauticStar and many of the key employees too.

Appreciate the feedback from everyone. Lots of mixed reviews out there on this brand for sure. Currently have a bass boat so no rush to pull the trigger on anything. Was just thinking of trying something a little different.

An "aluminum bay boat"

That should tell you all you need to know.

If you fish in and around bays alot, crossing them etc. The boat will eventually crack somewhere. Riding through rougher waters makes for a louder and rougher ride in an aluminum boat. Jmo. Now if your freshwater only in protected areas, then maybe but no to saltwater.

I did watch the video. They made it sound really good. For the price, ill say you wont find any new fiberglass/all composite boat at that size for 48k. I have a 2019 all fiberglass boat thats virtually the same size in length(wider and more stuff in it than the avid) and mine brand new todsy in 2023 is 90k, so your getting a big pay reduction by going aluminum i guess. Seems like a good boat , im just still skeptical about "aluminum". Maybe the technology is better these days.
