What do y'all find they bite best on? And what should I look for when trying to find them?

I've always caught them in the mouths of run offs or off of points with a steady current. Gunna try and go find a mess of them with the water dropping like a rock in the basin right now.

Which here in Oklahoma is known as a "sand bass".

To the OP: white bass are sight feeders, so bright colors, or very dark colors are effective as are rooster tails. I caught a bunch this past spring on a crawfish pattern rattle trap.

1 silver or white tiny torpedo, popR, or spitting image or other similar topwater.

couple of packages of 2" crème spoiler shad swimbait in white, or wild eye swim shad in 3" size in natural colors, or smaller sized sassy shad in white, silver, or chartreuse

couple of jigging slabs in chartreuse in 1, 1.5, and 2 oz

several 1/4 oz inline spinners in white or chartreuse

small 1/4 oz size rattle traps in silver

1/4 oz jig heads and white or chartruse 2" curl tail grubs

casting spoons in hammered nickel.

always keep one rod rigged with mono and a topwater in case they start breaking the surface in a school.

Ummmmm, no.

As for baits, it seems like every time I've caught bar fish, I was fishing for something else.

Never actually fished for them. Just caught them while bass or bream fishing.

When the Mississippi River is high at Old River, Batchelor, LA; the bar fish would run in schools mixed with small bass busting on shad. It is similar to following speckled trout. They would bust up on the surface for a few minutes in one spot. The school of bar fish mixed with little bass would slow down. Then they would bust up on the surface maybe 40 ft over from the last school.

Toledo Bend, 2 to 3 lb bass mixed in with bar fish do the same thing around September.

Rattletraps, chrome crankbaits, and shad color crankbaits work. Since they are busting up on shad I would think anything that mimics shad should work.

They usually school up on points. A white crank bait works ok. But the best thing I've used to catch them is a white rooster tail. Keep a couple in the tackle box and if you catch one, tie the rooster tail on, give one to your fishing buddy, and you'll probably catch a few more real quick.

I use a chrome/chartruese Rat-LTrap under lights at night and have caught literally over a thousand in the last few years.
One night we caught over 300.
