Have any of y'all had a new barrel installed on a Remington 700 action?

Who are some reputable gunsmiths in the EBR area?

What should one expect to pay (ballpark) to have a barrel chambered and installed? (maybe even have the action blueprinted)

I am having a hard time finding gunsmiths online in the area. And pricing (trying to budget, not lock in a price) seems to be all over the place online. Some guys say blueprint is ~$150 and some say ~$400, barrel install seems to go from ~$200 up to $350 (sometimes including chambering and sometimes saying +$60 for chambering....)

Just looking for some places to contact, experiences if you have them, and maybe a best guess for budgeting. Thanks for the help.

Personally, I would not limit your search area to EBR since you’ll only have a few GS’s to choose from. Research and find the best GS you feel comfortable with that can complete your project. You’re gonna spend approx. $750, and shipping to/from a GS will only cost you an additional $40-50. I’ve built and consulted on hundreds of custom rifle builds and would have no problem sending the components to a GS that builds a proven rifle. Don Geraci in Independence, LA has built a half-dozen rifles for me but I do not know if he is accepting any new work.

Ballpark prices:
$365 - stainless steel, select match grade barrel
$275 - cut, chamber, crown
$150 - true, blueprint the action
$25 - bead blast and engraving
$125 - cerakote the barreled action (optional)

If you’re willing to mail components I can provide you with GS names and contact information

All great stuff! Thank you for the info.

My only concern with mailing everything, was not being able to discuss in person. But that is probably not that big of a deal. I would be willing to send it out in order to get a better product.

Thanks. I already have the action, bought a new stock and trigger. Looking at barrels now. All I really need the smith for is to chamber and attach the barrel (maybe blueprint the action). I was looking into the remage setups, but don't really like the look for this setup and don't plan on switching calibers again on this rifle.

You could buy a barrel that's already chambered.

I bought a Bighorn Origin action and built the rifle myself.

it is a remington 700 footprint but uses the Savage small shank barrel with a barrel nut.

It really isn't hard. The only thing I'd do differently is buy a barrel vise, which you would need with the Remington.

which stock and trigger did you go with?

Manners MCS-T Elite Carbon with the GenII Mini Chasis.

Trigger Tech Remington 700 Primary. This is a hunting rig so there is zero need for me to be under 1.5#.

Thanks. I'm pretty pumped to see it finished. Just have to wait 6 months for the stock.

My suggestion, spend the money and get the action and bolt face/lugs trued. Pics of factory 700 actions, notice the chatter marks as threads were cut by a dull reamer. You do not want to put a precision machined barrel with trued threads into an action that looks like these. Action threads should be single-point cut.
