Best budget inshore rod/reel combo?

Sorry I’m advance if I sound ignorant, inshore fishing is all new to me. I’ve borrowed rods and reels from guides/buddies, but never owned my own dedicated inshore set up. I was thinking about a 3000 reel and rod combo but I don’t want to break the bank as this setup will get abused more than most as I plan on leaving it in my work truck. I saw where Shakespeare makes an inshore starter kit that was $50 at Bass Pro. Anyone familiar with that set up? I’ve also been flirting with the Toadfish and Penn Battle combos, although I wouldn’t consider them budget. I understand buy once, cry once too so I’m open to suggestions.
Thanks in advance

What’s your budget?
That Shakespeare kit will last maybe one season.
Pflueger President is a great reel and not too much money.

Shakespeare GX2 rod
Okuma Ceymar spinning reel
If you're leaving this in a work truck 24/7 then this will serve you well. Probably around $100 together

I’d like to keep it under $100. Would it be better to browse pawn shops?
I’m not opposed to spending $250 for a great combo but it won’t be riding in my truck 24/7

For ~$100, I'd go with a lower end Shimano (Sedona/Sahara) and a cheap rod from academy.

I have a few lews spinning combos from Academy and I’m more than pleased with the quality for the price. I’ve also had good luck with Kast King on amazon. $40 on a bass pro rod you’ll be under $100

I do not fish inshore but
Is my exact setup for my light catfish rigs when targeting channels and small blues for groceries. I'm telling you that combination with 20 lbs braid, a #4 treble hook and Stuuby's bait (no weight to feel the light bite) will load your cooler up.
It's inexpensive and gets it done.

I would strongly recommend against any combos under around $100 for saltwater use. That cheap is fine for freshwater, but especially a 'truck" combo that you may not rinse off right away you need to be somewhat decent. Those super cheap reels and rods will rust immediately otherwise. One of the things I've done is keep a spray bottle of tap water in your truck and spray your rig off.
I'd suggest a 2 piece rod for this, break it down and easier to store.
I'd also suggest something smaller then a 3000 personally. Get a 2000 or 2500. With braid its still big enough to handle a decent bull red but if you are casting lures all day that 3000 will get old quick.

I own multiple Penn Battle combos and are a great combo for the price. We use these for inshore fishing can’t complain about them. I would stay away from Shakespeare, imo.

Lew's spinning and bait casting combo's are some of the best priced combo's you can get...

No I’m in Alabama.
Thanks for the suggestions. I was looking at the entry level Shimano as an option so it’s good hear some positive reviews.
Even though it’ll be a truck rod, I know I need to rinse off which shouldn’t be an issue as I always have a cooler of waters. Still though, corrosion is mainly why I’m asking everyone what they have because it’s inevitable.
On Tuesday as I was driving over the mouth of the Fish River where it meets Weeks Bay, the bite was on and I was dying inside because I didn’t have a setup.
On a side note, after browsing the internet last night for some combos, I came across the new St. Croix inshore combo called the sole. They make the rod but they don’t make the reel. Anyone know who makes the reel?

I have several Daiwa BG reels, they are really really nice for the money.
A sienna or cheaper Daiwa/Penn will work but you just hit a really good value proposition if you can go with a $12 rod from academy or Walmart. I give the kids those cheap rods and they work fine, I am not giving them a $100+ rod and honestly they are surprisingly sensitive for the money, they are still graphite rods so it isn't too surprising.

go to academy and buy the H2O rod $10-$20 depending if its on sale, and then pair it with a diawa crossfire 3500 spinning reel $30 then spool it with 12-15 lbs mono
i have been using these for years and they are well made and stand up to a lot of abuse. caught endless limits of trout and 30" redfish with the same rig and it lasts me around 5-7 years before its time to replace it fishing at least 25 trips a year

Can't go wrong with daiwa or shimano for reels, my opinion in order
1. Shimano nasci fc $100
2. Daiwa BG $120
3. Daiwa legalis lt $70
Rods (6'6 or 7' med)
1. Faclon coastal xg $100
2. Tfo professional $100
3. Berkley lightning rod $50

Sierra Trading has been having a bunch of TFO stuff reduced.

To each his own but my experience has been very different. I fish pretty much exclusively saltwater and have 4 lews combos that are 3 years old and work as well as day one. I fish at leat 3 days a month and during the summer damn near daily. I do wash my gear off after but the Lews and kastking set ups i have fared as well as the shimanos that we also use. My kids use both set ups as do I. It’s first come first served in my boat. For a purely recreational truck setup, there’s plenty to be had less than $100. The two piece rod is a great idea though. My philosophy has always been that I won’t keep a reel for 10 plus years for a litany of reasons like losing one out of a rod holder etc. so I may as well make my cost of replacement as low as possible without sacrificing utility. Wash em off and extend the life….or dont and drop another $60.

I also like 2000 more than 3000 but 3000 for inshore is absolutely the largest I use

for a prebuilt combo, i'd go with a 2500 Penn Battle combo. If you want to build a combo, i'd go with a Daiwa BG2500 and then pick a rod you like to go with it.
