I am looking to purchase a new shotgun that will be used for deer hunting (while running dogs). What is the best shotgun to buy for this type of hunting?

Same way you buy a shotgun for any purpose. Get the 12ga in your price range that feels the best to you.

Yes, if you are on a budget, look at a pump. Something like the Remington 870 will treat you well for a long time for duck, deer, etc...

Are you going to use it only for deer? If so, why not a rifle?

No, I would use it as an "all-around" shotgun, but the hunting club I will hunt at runs dogs on the morning hunts and only allow shotguns while running dogs. Evening hunts allow rifles (no dogs), I already have a Browning X-Bolt Stainless Stalker 270wsm

That helps understand your needs better. A little more info on the front end would probably have kept us from throwing out a bunch of bullshite answers. I think any of the Bs (Beretta, Benelli, Browning) will work well. Go to a gun store and swing them see which one feels good. If it is going to be a swamp gun looks at something in a synthetic stock...

All the old men used to have just oe shotgun for everything from robin to deer. You'll be fine with any 12ga you like.
I don't think there's a better shotgun on the market than the benelli SBE. On another note, a cheap 870 express will do fine. The main thing is to try different loads in it and use whatever it patterns best. If it patterns 3.5" OO best use that. If it patterns 2 3/4" #1 best use that.
