Best starter boat for saltwater/freshwater?

Just bought a house on the water. It's saltwater with about two miles from the open ocean. Also about a mile away from freshwater. Dock doesn't have a boat lift yet. It's about 8 feet deep at low tide.
Never owned a boat before. Use to boat years ago. Looking for something to get my feet wet in the ~15 to 30k range. Plus any recommendations on a good lift? Neighbor has one that floats in the water.

16 ft under $8k. Something like a Carolina skiff to get your bearings and figure out what exactly you want to specialize in. This will also allow you budget for the right rigging and haul without breaking the bank and have fun doing it.
ETA: You can always just buy a classic Haul and drop a boat load of time and money like I’m doing right now. Projects are always fun and gratifying....

Still a lot to consider. Will you be fishing open water or more protected and shallow marsh area? More open water the longer boat and sharper deadrise you will want most likely. How many passengers do you want to carry?

Xpress 20-22ft bay boat. Easy to maintain and keep up. Can do just about anything

will you be mainly be using the boat for fishing, cruising with friends, water sports, etc?

Looks like he's in Florida. No way I'm going open Atlantic Ocean in an Xpress.

What's a classic haul? I'm assuming an older boat that needs some love?
My free time is pretty sparce otherwise that would be fun

I'd like 5-6. Mostly will fish in protected water. There's a ton of mangroves and flats around the area. Would like the option for some deeper waters though here and there. Nothing crazy

What about options for a dock lift?

I’m planning on buying my son a Cape Horn 19 for his starter boat. They’re not the nicest boats out there, wet AF...but solid and a good thing to make mistakes on/with. Easy to tow, can get home, albeit wet, if it gets shitty, not much to break...he can wake skate with it up the rivers, throw crab traps in it, take it to the marsh to fish...pretty much anything.
A few random pics for reference.

Both projects actually. Ones for cruisin’ and ones for “hauling arse.” Guess which is which.

Right in your price range, depending on condition and age of power. 15 yr old boat for $20-27k depend on how it’s built out.

One of my best friends from college guides out of Cape Horn boats. He absolutely loves them. I've been out with him twice, and I was really impressed.

See them as guide boats around Grayton, they launch into the surf, and usually run towers on them.

Before anyone can make a reasonable suggestion on what kind of boat we would need to know how you plan on using the boat.
What kind of boating experience do you have? I am guessing not much.
Do you plan on using the boat for pleasure cruising or mostly fishing? If fishing what kind of fishing?
If you are not experienced I would not recommend going into the open ocean. In that case I would recommend a small bay boat that you can stick to freshwater and inshore. Something that can accommodate a troll motor.
Getting a smaller boat will allow you to get a newer more gently used model that will not likely need much if any work. Plus a smaller boat is easier to handle and learn on.
I would stick to boats 20 foot or less that you can power with 115-150 hp.

For example here is a practically new 2018 20 for Bulls Bay in your price range. Excellent size boat to seat with and new four stroke motor for power.

Here is another one in Tampa. A bit bigger but still manageable. 2014 21 ft Nautical Star.
LINK
Older model Young with new power. This one won’t last long. Young makes some of the most high end bay boats out there.

Open ocean with those slick bay boats, and someone who has never owned a boat is insane. Something with a gunnel to protect him from bad decisions or otherwise unforeseen weather. Old Parker, Grady, Jones Br...
The electronics needed to really go out in the ocean, with no feel, is another issue. We go 80 miles out into the gulf in a 21 Triton with minimal electronics, but with oceanographers who have a sixth sense.

Your gonna have to increase your top end ....for where you are you should go 22ft
Sportsman 227 masters
Sea pro 228 dlx
Tidewater carolina bay 2300
Find one that 3 or 4 years old under 50k...this decision is a long lasting one so buy the correct boat...do go to small
..the right 20ft boat deep v could he am option....
If u are strictly freshwater/inshore salt then a bay boat is a better option
Sportsman 2110 bay
Tidewater 2100 bay
Tidewater 198 adventure

I think the best answer is what brands are other people using in your area in that size range ?
Ya dont see many Cigarette boats in Grand Isle or Grady Whites on the Tickfaw.
