Looking for some info on this place. Is the fishing any good? Good lake to ski/board on?

Last time I was out there we skied and tubed. This was 10 years ago. Heard the fishing is good. The dam busted 15 to 20 years ago and wiped out a lot. Maybe even houses? I forget. It’s a nice place and not far from Hattiesburg.

As you can tell by the size, probably not great for this.

It’s narrow for skiing, more like a larger river than a lake. Good fishing. Since it’s private there is not a ton of pressure on the fish. They have taken care of it since the levee broke and it became a Bill Dance Lake. Best in spring, fall and early morning due to skiers. Land is not unreasonable for the lake you get access to.

We had a house there for years

Loved it

Had the boat and went fishing a lot. There was a tournament every spring and it was pretty competitive. I never caught anything more than a 3 lb bass which is nice but guys had 6+ lbs.

As to skiing, yes there is skiiing but more wake boarding and tubing. Most weekends it was common to see folks pulling kids around.

We enjoyed that place.

You may want to look at it recently. It's some of the highest real estate in the Hattiesburg area. $280-300/sq. ft. for homes out there.

Check this listing out: Zillow Link

Yeah prices are relatively high. Some are just stupid high and they sit forever.

They have good architectural standards and they’re real consistent on the home styles.

We got frustrated that they wouldn’t develop the west side of the lake to put in a marine supply/gas, restaurant, and light shopping.

I got tired of hauling gas cans around for the boat.

I hear from some of the people still there that they’re talking about putting in a marine store but I’ve heard that before...

I have a lot out there that is currently for sale. It is not on the main lake, but across a road from it. Excellent fishing once you learn the lake. Plenty of room for skiing, tubing or just cruising. Beautiful scenery, and they put on a great fireworks show every year for July 4th...

I’ve recently discovered this place but haven’t had a chance to make it up there. A realtor told me that they are scheduled to break ground on a clubhouse and restaurant by the end of the year? It has my interest because it seems like a really nice spot within 2 hours of my house.

Are the homes currently there mostly retirees and vacation homes or is it more full time residents?

How big is the actual lake? My aunt and uncle bought a lot out there that they never built on and eventually sold. They always talked it up, but Ive never seen it.

I think the lake is around 1,000 acres. Good info on here. Appreciate it. I am going up in a few weeks to check it out.

When I was there,’it was mostly weekenders and it seemed like a lot of families from Hattiesburg

There was a mix of older and 50’ish with kids.

There was a guy and his wife down the street and they were from Mandeville and they was a bit older. He liked to watch LSU games and had a nice spread of food and drink.

There was a couple there from fairhope and she was a realtor who works as a dedicated agent there. Real nice lady. He was a retired navy guy I think.

The place is cool. It’s just real remote and my wife and I like to go out. That ain’t happening there

Made a visit.

Really nice lake. Price per sg ft. is really high but I expected that going in. Putting in a pool and then a small marina type (fuel, snacks, etc.) later this year. We are considering it strongly.

We are considering it too.

I have a deer least up the road from Hattiesburg that I want to get out of and then buy some acreage.

My wife wants something on the gulf.

We found this lake and it may tick both of our boxes by getting us a place that is on the water and near enough to my lease that I can stay there and still be in my stand in 30 or so minutes.

Late to this thread, but Big Bay is great. If they ever do the marina/grill/fuel it’ll be even better.

We’ve had a place out there for the last few years and have really enjoyed it

They broke ground on the pool, clubhouse, grill/bar, fitness center. Moving lots of earth around on the west side, close to the northern end of the lake.

The marina/gas is going on the far south end next to the boat launch but I think that is going to happen after they finish the other amenities.
