Anyone ever actually seen one anywhere in Louisiana? Is it a myth or are they really out there?

Yes. There have been documented cougars (no black ones of course) in Lousiana.

I had an online friend that sent me some pictures of a cougar they had on trail cam. I put them up on TheJump.Net and it almost got him kicked out of their club.

I was never allowed to say where in Louisiana but it was in South Louisiana down near where another cougar was documented officially by the LDWF.

My friend and I was driving back from Silver lakes when a big female ran across the levee road and stopped 20-30 ft off the road . It was close enough to tell it was a female . It then ran across a big bean field towards Blackhawk

Yes. I've seen one (brown) on our hunting club in Mansfield once. 200yds away at the end of my shooting lane. He walked across.

One was seen about 10 years before that.

My cousin swore up and down he saw a black one cross the road on our lease years ago. He was the only one that saw it though.

A cougar was shot and killed in a neighborhood by the Bossier City Police Department on Nov. 30, 2008. The DNA from that cougar confirmed it originated from a New Mexico population. LDWF link to sightings

Although the department has received many calls about black panthers, there has never been a documented case of a black cougar anywhere in North America.

Said it in here years ago, but here goes again:

I watched a cougar cross the big power line that runs thru the Blackhawk area. Had my crosshairs on it as it went across in the light rain. Big!!
My friend on whose land I was hunting said a deer was taken off a meat pole earlier that year. Tracks identified the thief as a cougar.
98 or 99.

ETA: actually was ‘95, we watched LSU beat Michigan State and Saban that night. Indy Bowl.

The only confirmed remaining native population in the southeast is in Florida. Any other sightings are transient males or escaped exptics. Females dictate native populations, since they are typically not transitory.

I've seen brown cougars on the old Georgia Pacific WMA but anyone that claims to have seen a BLACK panther is mistaken or lying IMHO.

True enough, he uses it to guard his unicorn.
