Anyone making bootleg turtleboxes out of Pelican cases? Really don’t want to spend $400 on a real one.

It would really be hard to duplicate that quality. Just go to Amazon and get you a cheap speaker that you’re gonna take outdoors and ruin anyway.

I have a Bugani m83 and it works.

We only take the turle box to the beach.

It’s definitely not worth 400 to me. I have a couple of cheaper Bluetooth speakers that work just fine for my needs and they were a fraction of the price.

I made one with the pelican case from harbor freight. It’s water tight. Ordered 2 kicker marine 8” speakers and a Bluetooth amp off of Amazon. Also ordered an adapter so the speaker runs off my drill/impact batteries. Probably all in for $250. You could make a single 6x9 in a box for less. It is loud and it is awesome. I’ll try to post a pic.

I've had a cheap Anker for about 6 years now. It won't die.

I did and it's a beast. Looks fantastic as well. Harbor freight medium box, 160x2 watt amp, 2-6.5" Fusion RGB speakers running off of a 20V drill battery. Will play for 36+ hours.

You’d have to know who you’re talking to first.

I got it as a gift and would never spend that kind of money on a speaker. I don’t own a yeti and I bought those cheap Ozark insulated cups instead. That’s me.

It’s nice. It’s better than any speaker I own.

But I have three kids under ten and and they break shite. I bought an Amazon speaker that is nowhere near as waterproof or loud. It’s fine with me though.

I basically keep it on the back portly or the beach.

It does not go on canoe camp trips.

I didn't think so, but heard a few and bought one this summer. It's perfect for my boat and what we do. I don't regret the $400 one bit. Yes, you can make them cheaper, but I didn't feel like fooling with it. EQ settings with an iPhone are important for the loudness and quality, FYI.

I velcro’d the Bluetooth receiver on the right side of the box. My battery adapter is on the left. The top of the box is the on off switch, that’s the red plug. There are a few extra wires because the speakers have led lights that you can use but I chose not to. I ordered some sound deadening mat which is the black stuff.

I don’t understand the Turtle Box hype. Bluetooth speakers have been out over a decade. You can find plenty of cheaper Bluetooth/waterproof speakers with excellent sound quality.

It would be like if someone released a $400 ice chest right now when the novelty of Yeti passed 10 years ago. It’s excellent marketing though.

Maybe No Colors needs to make a speaker run to China

I’m all about diy but the last thing I’d want is to carry something yeti sized and weight around for music.

Turtle box does seem absurdly expensive, but I also don’t see tons of savings in a diy

ETA: some of my friends have those little Bose Bluetooth for around $120 and you can link them, 1-2 of those on something like a bay boat is all I’ve ever needed.
