Has anyone ever had an issue where your safe doesn’t unlock after you type in the combination on key pad? I typed in the code and went to turn the handle and it doesn’t unlock. Put a new battery in and still doesn’t work. When I type in a wrong code on purpose it makes a multiple beeping sound so it’s not like the code got erased somehow.

Are you able to manually unlock it with a key, and then reset the combination?

ETA: I see it doesn't have an alternative way to unlock. This is the procedure from the manual
quote:

You are strongly encouraged to keep a backup copy
of your combination in a hidden and secure
location. To protect the safety of your combination,
we will not release combinations without a security
check. We do not maintain any ownership
information on gun safes, and combinations are
tracked only by serial number. If you lose your
combination, we will only release it upon
completion of a security check process that requires
your safe’s serial number and several other steps.
Your safe’s serial number is located on the upper
right-hand corner of the rear of the safe. There
is a place to record this serial number and the
combination on the first page of this owner’s manual.
I'd just call their customer service and see what you should do.

Someone online said to turn the wheel as far counterclockwise as you can then try the combination again

Thank you for looking that up. Yeah, I’ve tried turning it hard counter clockwise and one person even said to kick it...Just weird that it doesn’t work all of a sudden. I’m going dove hunting and need my dang shotgun!

Lesson learned............

My guns will never be secured behind a battery...

Only a true mechanical dial for me.

Same

OP, do you hear the lock making an effort to unlock the handle? I know on my old man's, you have to make sure the handle isn't in any kind of bind or it won't disengage the lock.

I'm sure if you jack with it some more you can get it to open. Sure the battery you put in was fresh?

What kind is the new battery?

My dad had the same issue with a Winchester safe a couple years ago. Called the company and they told him get a fresh Duracell battery. I'm pretty sure it was Duracell. He had put in a cheaper new battery and it would not operate the solenoid, but the Duracell would.

It’s a brand new Duracell. I’m going to go buy another battery in the off chance I got a dud. If that doesn’t work I’ll call browning. I have an old school mechanical safe that takes about 10 minutes to get open... but at least you can get it open...

Happened to me with a safe, they sent out a locksmith to drill it and repair it. When our house is built, I am upgrading.

Yall must have not had combo locks on your football lockers back in the day. Id be surprised if it takes me more than 20 seconds to open mine.

I'm sure the mechanical ones are just as prone to crapping out though. My old man's safe has had the same battery in it for 12 years or some shite like that

You might have a "sticky" combination ... mine was like that , called browning and she said one of the numbers on the combination was probably off one, she sent a spread sheet with a sequential list of combos that changed one digit at a time, and i went down the list until I found the one that worked, has been flawless since

I have a Cannon and the same thing happened. New battery same thing. Cannon told me to go buy a new Duracell 2026 timeframe and change it every 6 months. I could only find a 2025 date but it worked. Fresh battery and it opened right up.

After reading this post...I'm glad my Liberty is a mechanical dial. I was always concerned about the digital portion failing....

It’s terrible. I have many other items in there that I’d be screwed if I needed right now. Trying the master code that browning gave me later. After that, I guess it has to be drilled. 0/10 would not recommend

Check YouTube. I know I saw videos of people opening these cheap safes with rare earth magnets.

My last battery lasted about 5 years. I had the weak battery syndrome and doing a hard right and a left popped it open for me after putting in the code. Mine is a Cannon safe and a fresh battery worked perfectly.
