Built in charcoal grill for outdoor kitchen

I just pulled out a gas grill (I hate gas grills) from my outdoor kitchen and I want to replace it with a charcoal grill. The space is 2' deep and 2'8" wide. I was thinking of putting in a 22" weber but I would like something that fits better (barrel type). What are my options? Which brands should I avoid? I love my weber and the way it cooks. If I have to go with something smaller what material should I use to hold up the grill (concrete board, plywood, etc.). Should I try to get one custom made?

Think custom will be your best bet.

I would have a custom pit built and maybe also add a removable Santa Maria style set up. Here's a La Baw that makes anything you want, I'm sure he can build it exactly like you want it. He's on Youtube and FB, here's his email. allentubbs31@gmail.com
Here's a custom Santa Maria he just made. LINK

you might be interested in a classic , Portable Kitchen, charcoal grill. Dimensionally it would be fairly close to a drop in.

That guy is in Vivian, LA. I am in Mandeville so that is way too far.

You’ll have to make it fit, but drop a Big Green Egg in there.

How about a Blackstone grill and keep your Weber?

Yeah if it were me, I'd prob look at placing a griddle in that spot. Something you could change out if you wanted.
OR make it a nest for a green egg type...or both!
I've found I like the griddle or charcoal. Not a big fan of gas either, but don't like firing up Green Egg for a quick cook.

I would advise you make an air gap.
Charcoal will be considerably hotter.
We melted many a gas pit in college.
burners go out, fill em with charcoal.
