Buying Mulch/pine straw in BULK

I need to put pine straw or mulch in my front yard, back yard, patio area, and along the driveway. Where do y'all recommend going to to have a load dropped off? Or can i just put it in the bed of my truck and trailer? How much does it cost?

Lowes has mulch on sale for $2 a bag right now. What color/type are you looking for? Call the local nurseries and see what they have by the yard.

Yup. Home Depot does, too. 5 bags for $10

Is that cheaper than getting it by the yard?

Im not sure about pine straw and mulch but i've seen neighbors that just had a truckload of dirt in the bed (not in bags). I'm guessing they are going to a place like landscape depot? I have a lot of flowerbeds so I don't want to drop $2-300 on mulch/pine straw.

I don't live down there but we do put pine straw in our flower beds. We have a local nursery that carries it in bales.
Typically around $7 a bale.

That depends on what you want. You get roughly 14 bags per cubic yard so $28 per yard is a very good price for colored hardwood mulch. We did 128'of flower beds with 16 bags. We estimated 8' per bag for 3' wide beds and it came out pretty right for us. $32 for all of our beds was very not bad. The sale ends today at both places so I would not hesitate long. It was much easier to spread and cleaner in bags vs bulk as well. Just toss the bags every 8' or so and go to town.

Not sure where you're located, I know of a couple of places in the NOLA area. Anthony's landscaping and Jefferson Feed & Seed both carry pine straw. Jefferson Feed had it for $7/bail but also said they had large bails for $20ish but were out when I was there. I would think the other not big box store garden centers carry pine straw.
On the Northshore there is Gomez Pine Straw, I think they sell it in various quantities.
I'm sure I'll get raked through the coals here, but I personally would stay away from wood mulch. Eventually you have to remove it because it doesn't decompose fast enough and can harbor mold/fungus that could harm the roots of your plants (or so I was told by one of the LSU Ag biologists who recommended using pine straw for mulch) Pine straw will break down naturally and become soil at a rate that doesn't promote mold/fungus.

I called Landscape Depot on Airline and they said they would sell me about 700sf worth of pine straw for about $110. I think this is the best price i can come across- which is a lot cheaper compared to LA nursery pine straw. The guy on the phone told me what u said about the wood chip mulch and how pine straw is usually better for the plants.

If you're close to a large lumber yard, they usually have truck load sales this time of year.

I work for a company that sales bulk landscape materials.
Our pine bark mulch runs $24/cu yd, and $27/cu yd for colored hardwood. Prices do drop a little if you buy more than 10 yds.
Pine straw, we sale for $4.00/bale, and one bale generally covers about 75 sq ft.

Pine straw really needs to be bagged (shredded) or bailed (not shredded). It’s very loose and not compact otherwise. A yard of loose pine straw would probably be just a few bails worth of compacted pine straw.
If you want hardwood mulch I’m sure you can find it by the yard but I usually use about 35 bags every spring and wait for the $2/ bag deal like other posters mentioned. Works out to a good per yard price and bagged mulch seems to look much fresher (better color) than loose mulch by the scoop.

i looked up reviews of them to try and find their price per bale and all i could find was people saying one of their drivers threw a injured puppy in a gas station trash can.funny to see those reviews but super sad story for the puppy

i always get the bailed. The Lowes deals ended yesterday and pine straw is actually better for plants because it keeps termites away and reduces moisture/mold.
