i swear i can't go bass fishing without picking up a couple of those big nasties. tried to clean one last yr that sat on ice for a day and the flesh was like peanut butter, wouldn't even hold together if you picked it up...
anyway i'd love to hear that there's a good way to eat them. i seem to recall reading a post that you can eat them raw. are there no parasites in them? i thought freshwater fish were a no-no for eating raw.

No way I'd eat that raw
But, I wouldn't eat it at all. So yea.

I prefer to bludgeon them to death with a paddle handle and sendin them to the bottom with vengeance.

I've never tried it, but I've heard they have to be skinned alive or just after they die. Also heard its no good frozen and that you need to cook it fresh, but who knows?

Why bother when there are so many other delicious fish out there? I love to catch them, but just release.

Otherwise known as a bowfin. choupique patties are ok.

Dont eat any FW fish raw there are parasites that can live in you from FW fish. SW is fine - think about it you ever go to a sushi joint and see sac a lait, white perch etc
BTW Choupique is dogfish or bowfin for the rednecks

I don't know either, B & B, but the poster here by that name told me it is pronounced "shoe-pick". I'm thinkin it might be something like a bowfin or grinnel?

Plenty of parasites in saltwater fish too. But more human parasites in freshwater than saltwater.

Choupique do taste pretty good the trick is after they are caught they must be cleaned while alive or the meat does get all soggy, deep fry just like any other fish add a chopped onion in the grease. results are good IMO.

You have to keep them alive.
