For a while these trucks were relegated relegated to the low country; however, they clearly made it to Louisiana now.

Can somebody help me understand these trucks and why people do it?

Ya got me. I been seeing them for several years here in Mississippi, I just figured I wasn't cool enough to figure it out.

My cousin from VaBeach called it the Currituck Strutt. from Currituck County down East (down east is a Carolina term for eastern NC ).

It’s both a loved and hated thing.

I generally enjoy seeing them as long as my son doesn’t have it and my daughter isn’t riding in one. …….kinda like truck nuts.

The Carolina Squat is a weird trend where truck owners modify the suspension of their vehicle, so the front is pointing towards the sky and the rear end is pointing downward. The trend actually didn't originate in Carolina as the name suggests, it was born out of Baja Racing in California and became popular after hundreds of drivers posted photos of their squatting vehicles on Instagram. Because of this, the Carolina Squat became a trend that caught on all over the country, especially in the southern states, as well as in North and South Carolina.

By raising the front of their trucks and simultaneously lower the back, it will result in a large rake. For added squat effect, they may even try to fit the biggest wheels and tires possible on their vehicle. It goes without saying that this trend offers little in way of practicality for vehicles and instead brings many disadvantages. There are several high-performance trucks on the market right now, and it's no surprise that none of them come pre-squatted. The Carolina Squat renders trucks virtually useless in terms of performance and for carrying any cargo, and visibility over the hood is extremely reduced. And those aren't the only problems the Carolina Squat brings with it. There are many ways to modify a truck to perfection, but this isn't one of them.

there's a lot of folks out there who have really boring lives so they way to in to their vehicle. When I see a squatted truck I expect the driver to have a neck tattoo and claim that his construction job will be starting any day now.

ETA: I'm not raggin on guys who collect classic vehicles, those baws are cool.

Trashy people love to show everyone their trashiness. A tale as old as time.

I will never understand the need to make your truck look like you’re hauling a pallet of sack crete in the bed.

It really sucks that trucks are the most popular vehicles right now.

There are a few in Mandeville and they are all high school kids with tricked out trucks. Where the hell is that money coming from? Have to work a lot of hours at Sonic for all of that.

I'd would rather see the squat than this "Swangas".

That was somewhat of a fad in the 60's with the muscle cars they had back then. The first phase was to have the front end up in the air much like those trucks.

Then as time passes it was more of the jacked up back end to push the nose of the car closer to the ground and that was definitely more aerodynamic and better looking. Plus when guys got on the gas hard, the back end would squat down as the power was transferred to the back wheels.

The car fad I really can't wrap my head around is the one where the tires are are not mounted like this [] but more like this // and \\ being completely out of line with the road.

Now that crap should be flat out illegal. No way in hell that crap doesn't get into the other lanes of traffic being that far out from the wheel base.

Now you know how bikers felt about lawyers, doctors and other upper end white collar types wanting to become RUB's back in the 90's.

Oh, and RUB's stands for Rich Urban Bikers, but they were really wanna be bikers who mostly had no clue. I'd go to bike night and could pick them out as easily as shooting fish in a barrel.

They'd ride up---well, actually not ride more so than have their feet on the ground making steps as they slowly motored into the area to find a place to park since they had no clue how to ride slow and not have their feet on the ground. Then they'd get off and you could see all their gear was brand spanking new and they were donned from head to to in anything branded HD.

Then they'd talk about going on long rides on weekends and long for them was 30 miles or so to stop off at a Shoney's to meet up for a bit of food and then head back home. Any long distance rally was done with the bike on a trailer that several of them rented with a driver to meet them at the airport where they'd fly in and then ride to the rally. fricking posers---
