Center Console War Eagle 2170 vs. 2370

I'm looking at buying a center console War Eagle boat and I'm debating between the 2170 with a Yamaha 150 or 2370 with a Yamaha 200. It will mainly be used to fish for reds/specks and run down river during duck season.
Also, what trolling motor/ fish finder do you recommend? Thanks in advance.

2370, I-pilot 80#
Have you compared having one built to these sea arks? Lyftime, sculley, hanko, gaudet, A. Gravois all build boats that will last longer than production boats. Just sold one that was 30 yrs old to the guy who built it in 89.

No I haven’t. I saw the War Eagle at a show 2 years ago and have heard all positive things about them. What makes you say 2370 over 2170?

Nobody has ever recommended the smaller boat

Touché. Trying to decide if it’s worth the spend to go bigger.

Depends what you want to do and all that good stuff.
Neither one is going to ride very well so it just comes down to how much space you want and which layout you like better.

Just curious, why aluminum and not fiberglass?

I don’t want the headache of a fiberglass boat if I bump into something. I plan on occasional trips to the spillway.

Either will sound like a can being drug behind a truck on the water so that’s a wash. Longer will ride a bit better, have more room, wider beam is more stable. What’s the price difference between them? Price a La made metal boat to really compare because there will be no comparison on quality and longevity. Craftsmanship of La built boats is off the charts good vs extruded Ar & Ms boats.

With I pilot, 9” Lowrance, and 10’ power pole it’s 37,600 and 41,000 (2370 quote is with painted trailer- waiting on quote with aluminum trailer)

You can get a lot better boat for $40k

Boat, motor and trailer is 29,500. It’s the add ons that drive the price up.
What would you recommend?

I'd get Express or Excel before War Eagle out of the factory made boats, more heavy duty. You can probably build a custom boat for cheaper at one of the boat builders in state. Gator Trax, Cottonmouth, Go-Devil, Hankos, Gaudet, Tim's. Look around and get the size, layout, and storage that you want.

Add another $2k-$3k for Al trailer and it will be worth every penny, most 3,000# trailers are $4,000. You’re paying a premium for yamaha, price with merc 150 which has crazy power to weight ratio and newer tech. $40k+ for a production Al boat doesn’t compute imo.

I’d go with the smaller boat. A 23-24 ft aluminum boat is huge. You can’t really fish any more people on a 24 over a 22. The big difference usually is motor HP and the length can help considerable with the ride in bigger seas. Neither of which are necessary for an aluminum boat imo. If it’s 1-3s instead of 1-2 you don’t want to be out in either in aluminum. You also don’t need to go 60 mph over 45 mph in aluminum.
I like aluminum for smaller center consoles so you can fish the marshes, rivers, and oyster bars. All of which I prefer a 17-20 ft boat.
I agree generally bigger is better, but I don’t think this is the case here.

Except how expensive they are and cracked welds.... then having to send them out of state for said cracked welds.
I'd get someone to build. Uncle J is the top of my list

How much do you think a aluminum boat with the listed add ons should cost?
Posted on 2/19/19 at 9:23 am to maisweh
I haven’t heard of any issues with cracked welds on War Eagle.

Go look at Cottonmouth they make a great boat. I had a 19'Lobell made 15 years ago. Its still going strong

I agree with this post.
Whackin - Will buying the larger boat keep you from spending the money you want on electronics or add-ons? If you are just marsh fishing then 21 feet is plenty big and you can use the money you save on better radar/GPS combo. If running the Ms. River the better electronics will help you more than the extra foot or two.
War Eagle is a good boat. If that's the manufacturer you have settled on then I wouldn't worry about competitors. If you can't find a lay-out that you like with War-Eagle then it may be worth a while to get a quote from an Uncle J., Hanko's, etc....
