Can't believe this still happens, especially in large tournaments like the BBS

Angler arrested at Toldeo Bend

Update - WBRZ Report with Angler's Information

quote:

Sealy Outdoors owner Bob Sealy and his son-in-law, Chris Bennett, have announced that an angler who competed in the Big Bass Splash Tournament over the weekend on Toledo Bend Reservoir has been arrested. Bennett explained that the angler, who was not named, turned in a bass at the weigh-in that was immediately flagged by the weight-master.

Bennett said the fish was set aside and an investigation revealed that the bass had lead weights inside of it to increase its weight. We spoke with Sabine Parish Law Enforcement and that confirmed that the angler was arrested and charged with a felony for fraud.

quote:

Aaron Moreau, 38, was arrested for fishing contest fraud Thursday following the Big Bass Splash tournament. Moreau reportedly stuffed his contest entry with lead weights and used the fraudulent fish to weigh in.

My guess is this happens way more than we would like to think when decent amounts of money are on the line.

They should be outed. Probably only a matter of time.

Would a Bass not die after stuffing lead weights down its throat? Do people just take a penalty for weighing a dead fish? Something just seems way off...

This makes me not want to fish tournaments anymore. And you know it is more than likely happening during small town tournaments and no one is catching it.

I think anyone who would waste time, money, attention, etc., on sponsoring or having interest in a fishing tournament deserves to be cheated. What next, watching grass grow?

You'd think they all use metal detectors after the first few guys getting caught doing this. And if it is common practice to use them, what was this guy thinking?

I love that Michigan wallet or musky tournament with a judge straight up cut a fish open and pulled out multiple lead weights. Great video.

Heard tale of two boys that won too many local tournaments. Turns out they had a barrel full of fish they'd catch sometime before, until someone spotted it. So the organizers got LEO involved and they secretly took a paper punch to some fish fins. And sure enough come weigh-in their fish all had holes.

The story went that one of the two doesn't have the same boat anymore and the other is gone.. vamoosed... never heard from again. As in he no longer resides in the area.

Get arrested for a felony for cheating in a bass tournament, yet the astros cheat , Tom Brady cheated, nascar cheats every week and they get slapped on the wrist with stupid fines that are nothing compared to thier winnings

You got fish pinned up somewhere baw? You seem like you’re upset they got caught.

Can’t turn a 3lb bass into a 6. Everyone knows what one looks like.
