Anyone use this stuff for algae control before opening the pool for summer use?
I need to know how much I need to dilute into a bucket to treat a 15000 gal. pool, I didn't touch over the winter. I had plans of filling it in, but wife and grandbabies say I'm full of shite.
The smallest container I could purchase was 5lbs. which will treat 1 acre 1 foot deep. I'm figuring I'll be close to 80 by the time I use 5 lbs up.
Preciate any help you might offer.

well, an acre = 43,560 square feet X 1 foot deep = 43,560 cubic feet = 325,851 gallons....so you could treat 65,170 gallons with a pound of copper sulfate, or 4.3 swimming pools with a pound of copper sulfate...
looks like you would need a little under 1/4 of a pound to treat a swimming pool the size of yours...
surely you can find a way to purchase a half pound or a pound of copper sulfate....
fwiw, I have no experience in the mtce of swimming pools, so take this for what it is worth...

I sell Copper Sulfate for water treatment plants to keep algae under control in the basins and kill algae coming in from the source water. It's a great way to treat that and some of my customers used it to treat their pools. I sell it in a liquid for in bulk shipments. My recommendations are to wear gloves, protective eye wear and a mask. That stuff is very dangerous bc it is a true biocide. I have gotten the crystals in my eyes before when it had dried on some pipe we were cutting. It's very painful so take your time and be careful.
Depending on how bad the algae is, you shouldn't need more than 2lbs to treat 15,000 gal of water. I would start with 1lb mixed in several 5 gallon buckets. Then disperse in the pool. Wait and see how it does. If it needs more then repeat. The copper will settle so try and move the water.
Goodluck

Thanks fellas for your help. According to the volume calculator that I used, found here: LINK Based on 15000 gal. I have 125700 lbs of water in the pool.
Product instructions says multiplying PPM .000001 x 125100 lbs of water will dictate .12 lbs of product use for my application.
In my search for this solution I ran across this site: LINK I believe this should help many on the OB.
Again, Thanks a lot!

Back when we had a pool the Mrs would use that stuff all the time. It'll defiantly clean the water but beware cause it'll turn blond girl's hair green

I know! Use to get it by the lb here, but no more. I was catching lashes from the Cat O Nine Tails yesterday about the pool I no longer want. So I had to buy where available. Could have driven 12 miles today and bought by the pound.
A preachment, dear friend you are about to receive on John Barleycorn, nicotine and the temptations of EVE:
No parking by the sewer sign
Hot Dog my razors broke
Water dripping up the spout
But I don't care, let it all hang out.

only advice I can offer is Copper will leave metal stains in pools if you use too much. hard and chemically expensive to get rid of once you have them...
