I’m up I’m the ozarks helping my dad do some rock work at his place. I have two weeks of misery upcoming don’t I?
aggravating thing is that I did use precautions but I woke up this morning looking like a leprosy patient. Anyone got any skin treatments that work?
I’m going to ride in to Dover and see what I can find at the drugstore

Feel for you. I my wife and I were at Bug Cedar Lodge and sitting at a bench for a little bit. I ended up with about 10 or 12. I hate those bugs.

OP, Rid a Chigger is your best bet or finger nail polish. You have to cover the spots to kill of them suckers. By scratching, you are spreading the eggs which hatch fast. Reason as to why they spread all over your body even after you are out the woods.
Oh. prays sent and drink many many beers. You going to need it.

I may be wrong but I don’t think that’s true.
According to the interwebs the lesion only forms after the chigger larva has had its meal and dropped off. Larva hatch from eggs in the grass and then latch on to idiots like me
regardless, I’m going to need to be sedated. I’d forgotten how miserable this is.

Bleach in the bathtub or go take a good soak in a swimming pool. I used to come home from the camp and get in the pool for a couple of hours along with several adult beverages, they went away quickly.

Prayers to you and your upcoming misery.
FYI I have started spraying with permethian every time I go in the woods during summer and have not had a tick or chigger bite in the last two years.

Not finger nail polish. Use polish remover. Big difference. Also a couple ounces of bleach in the bath water works for me everytime

How to treat chigger bites
It can take anywhere from one to three weeks for chigger bites to heal. If you suspect you have chigger bites, immediately wash with soap and water. This will get rid of any remaining chiggers on your body. Then apply an antiseptic to any welts.
In the meantime, try to avoid scratching, as this can cause infection. You may use over-the-counter anti-itch medications like hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion. You can also apply ice to the bites to relieve the itch.
Avoid very hot baths and showers. If you become infected or symptoms don’t improve, see your doctor. It’s a common misperception that chiggers burrow under the skin. They don’t, so there is no need to try to remove them.

Why is this? A good hot shower, as hot as I can stand, makes the hitches feel super sensitive while the hot water is running over it but after you get out they stop itching for several hours. That and swimming are the only sure fire way to get rel3if for me

I know it's expensive but it has saved me for years now and it's called RHINO skin. It's made in the U.K. And it's like spandex that bugs can't penetrate. Shirt, gloves, head, cover, socks.
I used to use permethrin and that sprays on your clothing and kills for like 7 years and twenty washings and it works but, I don't want to grow an extra arm so I made the investment in bug clothing.
calamine lotion helps along with what others mentioned.

They could be oak mites. They are bad up there this time of year. All our sets are in pine trees because of it.

At this point all you can do is treat the symptoms, topical creams (cortisone, Benadryl, calamine, etc) oral antihistamines (Benadryl) and if it gets too bad go to an after hours clinic and beg for a steroid injection, the chigger itself is long gone and no eggs are hatching, your body is just reacting to the waste he left behind while he was there

I soak in a hot bath with Dreft baby laundry detergent. It’s not very manly to take a bubble bath, but it gets rid of the itchiness.

Prayers sent. I’ve had them 4 or 5 times and I’ve tried everything that the internet suggests. Chiggerx is the only thing that works for me. It’s easily found at Walmart, Walgreen’s, etc. Rub it on and the bites are numb for an hour two. You have to constantly reapply but it’s better than dealing with that insane itching.
Lord I hope not. The times I’ve had it the itching stops after 2-3 days.

The last time I got them bad I was out of town and went to a local urgent care and asked for a shot. After one quick look by the Dr they quickly obliged and sent me on my way. Itching went away rapidly. I'm too old to fight those damn things so I'll do anything to speed relief up.
