Crawfish farm profitability

What’s an average farm bring in per acre?
I’m guessing the highest overhead costs would be pumping water for aeration, bait and trap construction
Also what kind of yearly yields per acre would an average man made farm be producing

LSU has some good literature on this.
Figure 600-1200lb/acre a year. ROUGHLY. That should get you started.

I would imagine initially traps would be high, but I bet there is someone trying to get out of it at the same time you want in to give you a deal.

My cousin owns a large crawfish/rice farm in church point. I think he is doing very well but he works very hard and he’s been at it for many years.

Is it true that rice farmers in Louisiana are required to set aside x number of acres a year for crawfish farming? Somebody told me this the other day and I found it hard to believe.

Buy a pond that's already established. If you are starting from scratch and have to purchase land, dig a well and levees, it will take you a very long time before you see a profit.
To answer your question, on average about a sack per acre when it's good.

We get about 400-500lbs per acre but it’s strictly a hobby for us. We have 25 traps and between us all probably run them 2-5 days a week. Our cost are pretty low.

No crawfishermen make money. It’s to hot or to cold. It’s to much water or not enough water. We know the drill.

The thing about farming is you almost have to be born into it. A man that goes out and buys/leases the land and then the equipment to farm from start don't hardly stand a chance.

Lmao! Not even remotely true. I know some guys in St. Martin Parish that are some of the most successful farmers around and they are first generation farmers.
Farming takes money, land, hard work, and common sense. It's not a genetic trait you inherit.

Do you have a spreadsheet for cash flow on these farms?
Your farmers would do better investing in rent houses for ROI.
