I am currently looking at getting into a lease on the Pearl River in this area for the upcoming season. Does anyone have any information about the quality of deer in this area?

I would imagine the quality is much worse than that near the river.

It has potential. I know people that hunt in the area and they kill some good bucks. Just depends on if it's been managed before and what the neighbors shoot, but like I said it's got potential

I hunt NW of Brookhaven and we have great genes up there but poor quality control

The place has potential, from what I've been told. I am looking for an affordable place within a 2 hour drive from the northshore.

I know several ppl that hunt that area. Not near the quality of deer along the river, but they do kill some good deer. I think you probably need to rely on management a little more there.

Comparing land to land that's along the ms river isn't really a fair comparison. The land along the ms river is the best land in the south east. So even though it may not be as good as land along the ms river, it can still be awesome

The deer are good and can be managed. Trick is to keep the outlaws and dog hunters off your place. I hunt in lincoln county near Ruth and the outlaws are rampant. I took a 120-130 8 pt this past year and my gf missed a 12 pt...But I've let tons of 2 and 1/2 yr old deer walk to see them laying dead in someone else's truck a week later.

Good post. I know a lot of people that hunt in that area have the "if its brown, its down" mentality. They have some big time 'necks out there too, so I imagine they do some outlaw hunting.

But, that can be said for most of Louisiana or Mississippi. If you get in a good club, you have the chance to kill some great deer out there.

exactly right. they arent the only outlaws in the area. we had some good deer in that area but plenty of people shoot anything and trespass.
