Two things...

1. Anyone familiar with how the hunting is around Lacombe, North of I-12? I talked to a guy about a lease over there, should be looking at the property towards the end of the season.

2. Has anyone on here done the whole bidding deal for Roy O, Soterra, Weyerhauser properties? Not join a club that is owned by one but actually started there own lease?

ETA:

1. Is a club that's is supposedly in the early stages of "trophy" management. Large tract, pretty good land:member ratio.

Staring up a lease? Looking for members if so?

Those piney woods not the best, but some ok deer have come out of that area from time to time.

Last and worst case scenario. Starting to run out of options... Didn't know if anyone on the board had gone that route on a small tract with maybe 1-2 buddies, versus 30-40 others.

Hunting has been limited or absolutely non-productive the last 4 years. (seen 2 deer and 2 hogs on over 30 hunts between Jackson and Spillman, LA last year)

Ideally 150-300ac west of 55 south of the Homochitto River.

More looking for someone with info or experience messing with that... Is it worth it?

Joining an established club is really what I'd prefer, but I've been trying to find the right one for 4+ years.

For those of yall that live between Covington and Slidell, would you pay ~$1500 to hunt around there?

I live in Madisonville and would pay well over $1,500 to hunt somewhere, but don't think it would be between Covington and Slidell. I am certainly looking for somewhere to hunt this next season. I've got money in hand to join the right place tomorrow. I won't let another hunting season pass with me not being in a lease somewhere.

I'm all ears for a good opportunity.

I live in Madisonville. Would not pay $1500 to hunt dixie ranch or those areas between slidell and covington. For $1500 drive 3-4 hrs for a decent deer herd.

Between covington and slidell, mainly for convenience, I'd pay $500 tops

4 and Rattle, that's the info I was looking for, thank yall. It's over an hour away for me just seems like I'd be going to wrong direction for what I want to accomplish.

I grew up out there and we never really had a good population of deer from what I remember. But that was 15+ years ago. I also have a couple friends who still hunts off 36 around the 434 area. They kill multiple deer every year but nothing special.

Good luck

probably not. I am thinking about joining a buddies lease up around Franklinton for $1500. I think they have around 2000 acres between 6 members currently

How have they done in the past? My wife has family land in the Franklinton area and have only seen does and spikes for the past 10 years. They keep saying that there is nothing in that area so as soon as a small 6pt shows up, people treat it like a 10pt.

I have property about 15 miles NE of franklinton. I'm in my stand right now. I do not have 100s or 1000s of acres, only 40 but it's just me and the wife hunting.
The woods I hunt is all locals and their property - no clubs. The locals shoot anything that walks. I try not to. We have only killed 1-2 deer per year. This is our 4th year hunting it. I constantly have only 4 bucks on camera and about 6 does but the deer here are very nocturnal due to the amount of locals shooting all day and constantly making noise addition to every thing else. I get a few different bucks on camera during the rut but it's all night time.
I don't hunt first light because we have never seen a deer before 8am. There is no pattern to the deer here, I think it's due to the amount of human intrusion.
I started hunting here bc it was family land but I'm starting to look other places because it is a 2.5 hour drive for me.
Da Hammer is from the area and is on a club here, he can speak from a hunting clubs view point.

He kills 5-6 deer a year. No real monsters but they get their fair share of decent deer. I also have family in a club between Amite and Franklinton. They kill some good deer there every year

My wife's cousin is from franklinton and he is on a club here not far from my property. He does better there than on his family land. I wouldn't join a lease unless it has some acreage to get away from the locals. I'm looking for a lease too, so if yall find one and need some members : seapickle09@gmail

Well the lease is 3k acres (~200ac/member) management practices looked sound so it might not be a good situation. Still not really what I'm looking for.

Anyone have any experiences with smaller tracts leased from timber companies like Soterra, Weyerhaeuser, and Roy O'Martin?
