Yep. Anything not man powered has to be registered.

Does it matter if the motor is 'removable' ?

This is what they are referring to:

"BOAT REGISTRATION:
All boats with motors, including electric trolling motors, operating on the waters of the state, must be registered and numbered. Boat registration applications are available from most boat dealerships, and on the LDWF web site, from any of the Wildlife and Fisheries District Offices or from Wildlife and Fisheries, Boat Registration, P.O. Box 14796, Baton Rouge, LA 70898, phone number 225-765-2898."

You're doing good with that inflatable until you put a trolling motor on it. If a motor is used, you need to register. Not sure how you are going to come up with a hull ID for many inflatables, but you can talk that one out with the folks at DWF.

That said, I would be cautious about using an inflatable myself. Many of our waters have gators in them, and your boat is one bite away from you being in his territory (i.e., in the water with him).

Really? How many gators have bitten your boat?

Think about what you're asking. A 10hp outboard, a 25hp...

Never seen one that wasn't "removable". Some just take longer to remove and weigh more.

Here is a really silly question, if your boat is registered in LA and you want to bring it to some waterway in Mississippi...how does that work?

this ^^^^^^

and a game warden told me that it includes pedal power such as paddle boats and those kayaks with pedal flippers if you go by the "letter of the law" but he told me that he personally wouldn't ticket a kayaker without registration as long as the guy wasn't being a nuisanse with it but another guy might.

for paddle power or push pole registration and hull ID numbers is not required, but any means of mechanical propulsion requires registration and hull ID numbers

I started to go that route but figured he was talking about those that a man could walk down the bank of a bayou with.

No, that is exempt because it's man powered. He's full of shite.

I agree with you, on both accounts.

I used to use an inflatable one man pontoon with a trolling motor. I never registered it and used it all over the country.

You've been lucky then. Of the state's I have experience with (tx, la, ms, ar, ok), I believe all of them require registration on boats with a motor regardless the size of boat and type of motor.
