I know this one has asked a bunch, but I need a trainer for my pup. The one problem is, she is a 1 year old doberman. I've trained all my other dogs, but this one has got the best of me. I'd like her to go away for a month or 2 and come back ready to be a pet.

Any help is appreciated.

Not too old for training. I typically start a bit earlier than that.
There's tons of obedience places around (especially in the gulf south). But I don't know one in particular for just obedience.

I know several for Herding and Retrieving.
Hope you find some help.

I had a Doberman when I was a young kid. Still one of my favorite dogs.

Used to charge $800 for two months paid up front for OB work. Many called wanting weekly rate when I told them my monthly fee. You’re correct in two month min, stay away from the pet store trainers. Where you located and I can give you solid suggestions? Most retriever guys will do all breed OB if they aren’t full, heck I would do it almost.

I called a trainer about my weim when she was young to ask about obedience training as well. First thing he asked was if I had a shock collar. I bought a sport dog one and used it properly and let me tell you, she was the most obedient dog I’ve ever had. I did have so put in time working with her though. Some people don’t have that kind of time. Hope this helps

That’s what I was thinking too.

That’s right up my alley right there.

That’s where I’m at. This dog was given to me by the breeder, my MIL. My daughter just had to have a puppy for her bday. My old GSP is 10 and trained perfect. Now, we have this savage. I have time to work with her, but not the beginning of the process. This is the hardest headed dog I have ever had

One is full and the other hasn’t the fortitude to tackle it. Honestly, it’s pretty easy if you schedule your time and pay attention to the animal.

Crap, well thank for trying.

Time is one big issue. The other is this damn dog. She’s hard headed and willful, but if you put any pressure on her, she cowers and pees.

Nah, I would pick smart over willful & hardheaded. Soft dogs are generally smart but get the hardheaded rap. Your dog is smart, you need to learn how to get through to her.

Be truthful here, how much daily exercise and stimulation are you giving to her?

With the shitty wet weather, not as much as I would like maybe 30 minutes. When it gets nice, it will be way more. Its hard to isolate her and my other do which is what I need to do. She is a smart dog. I'd just love someone else to put in the off lease work for me.

I called him for my GSD and it was something like a 6 month wait.

Where are you located? I used a guy out of West Wego. Facebook or google K9 Citizens Club. Marcus is really good, has monthly packages and can do weekly. Weekly is about $200/lesson though.

I'm sorta in your shoes. Definitely do not work my GSD as much as i should. Consistency is key, so if you do training and don't have time to keep it up, it'll fall by the wayside
