Egg Identification

I spotted these egg remnants and a good egg next to a tree in my backyard Saturday afternoon. You can see the hole where the eggs had been. I assume a coon or something dug them up and ate all but the one still intact. They measured about 2" long and 1" diameter. I was thinking turtle at first, but from what I've read, turtle eggs are not usually oval like these.

Those are snake eggs. Best to just carpet bomb the area and rest easy.

You're 100% sure? I cut the intact one with the assumption that a venomous baby snake could indeed be inside and be dangerous if not deadly already. Whatever was inside was not developed at all. There was only a very bright orange yolk and the early stages of some sort of embryo with a large black eye.

he's joking most our vipers give live birth anyways so when they come out of momma they are ready to bite

They do look like snake eggs, but the only venomous snake in north america that lays eggs is the coral snake. And those are way too big to be a coral snake.
Just free rodent control - the mom anyway. Something ate the babies.

Turtle eggs. Not all turtle eggs are spherical. Sliders, and many other Emydids, lay oval-shaped eggs.
Edit:
And raccoons LOVE turtle eggs.

Those are 100% turtle eggs. I'd bet they are red-eared sliders/ painted turtles. Do you live near a river or lake or any body of water? I used to work at a turtle farm when I was younger, and the eggs looked exactly like these.

You may have been thinking of softshell turtle eggs, which are perfectly round and almost glass-like.

Thanks. I live on a golf course. These must be turtle eggs. My other "experts" swore that turtle eggs are round. We have a few different species of turtles in the ponds so this must have been done by them.

Yeah, if they were in that hole that's dug behind them, then I agree they probably are turtle eggs. I wasn't weighing all the evidence in my first reply and I really thought the eggs were larger than they must be.

Had one lay her eggs at my back patio.
That night a coon or something ate the eggs.

100% turtle eggs. And it’s a coon that ate them up. Had 4 nests tore up in my garden. We found a 5th nest intact and dug up the eggs. Hope they hatch and will release into the ponds nearby.
Zoom in and you can see the eggs

It's funny that the coons left one intact. We also have coyote trouble, so I'm thinking the coon was scared off before he could finish them all up.
