Anybody ever hunt it? I've always wanted to hunt ducks in or around the atchafalaya basin but am completely new to the area.

General knowledge about access, hazards, navigation, would be appreciated.

Expect to spend a full day or two scouting. There are plenty of wood ducks there, but you will have to scout to find the roosts and morning feed areas. My guess is that they are roosting closer to the sugar mill acid water holding ponds and feeding in the holes on EM closest to it.

That would be the plan - scout and scout some more. How drastically do water levels change there? Are tides a big factor? I assume it's not hard bottom, correct?

Lake Verret is a shallow lake and can get rough. Be really careful on windy days.
