Lots of time I use a hand muff like you. But sometimes not. Admittedly, it doesn't get that cold in SW AR where I hunt, but here's what I do.
Not very cold: A pair of weight lifting gloves from Temu. Some of my hunting handguns have a "little" recoil to them. I've started developing some tendonitis my my dominant hand and I hope the padding in the palm of these gloves will help w/ that.
A little colder or using a lighter recoiling handgun: A pair of gloves I bought from Cabela's prob >40 years ago. Not one do they fit really tight, but they have nobs in the palm/fingers for texture and the tip of the 1st finger and thumb is cut off, helping dexterity.
Cold: A pair of gloves that has a lightly insulated velcro "hood" covering the fingers like a mitten. If it's cold, I put a small chemical pack in the "hood."

Definitely not a single answer, depends on the weather and what im doing. Ducks in the rain is different than a deer blind and the mountains are a whole ‘nother animal. I have way too many gloves but my kuiu guide gloves probably get used the most when I’m hunting. I’ve also in become a big fan of hot hands the last couple of seasons.

KINCO HYDROFLECTOR
Plumbing/work gloves that are waterproof and insulated. And cheap.

I loved the Banded ones I have. Only gloves I have ever owned that allowed me to use my fingers and kept my hands warm.

I have a pair of the Sitka down pour. I loved them but I have no idea where they are currently.
