Final review of the Avantco 10" Meat Slicer

Last week I reported I'd just received my new meat slicer (Avantco SL310 from here LINK ) but had not used it yet. I gave a general summery of what I thought of the machine. Which was 5 stars on build and appearance.
Now I can tell you more. This is still 5 stars IMO. I smoked a 6# Sirloin Tip Roast for Memorial Day, feeding 8 adults and 5 grandchildren.
During the time of letting the beef rest,I broke the machine down for a sanitation wash before I began slicing the meat.
This took around 10 minutes to do.
Slicing: The carrier is 8"x8". Maximum Product Depth 6 1/2 Inches. The 36 lb. slicer breezed through the meat with no effort from the 400 watt motor.
What I discovered is, you can't get in a big hurry with your slicing and allow the meat to stack up, because some of the meat will get pulled into the blade guard causing the slicer to spit a lot of little giblets of meat directly behind the slicer. This isn't a design flaw, it's an operator error.
Once I decided to removed the meat from around the discharge area before it piled up, the spitting of meat ceased.
Clean up: Of the 20 or so reviews I read about this machine, the few negatives were concerning the clean up. I suspect those who gave negative reps to the slicer were the type that had NEVER owned a decent slicer before. Anyone who has ever dealt with any kind of machinery maintenance knows clean up ain't fun! Having said this, it did require a few minutes more to break down and clean, because you need to removed the very sharp blade with care and of course the meat that accumulated behind the blade. About 20 minutes is all it takes to get the slicer back to pristine condition.
I still maintain the $286 you spend on this slicer is money well spent. Just plan on slicing a lot of meat when you decide to put it use, or schedule enough time that you won't be pressed for time after slicing.
This is a China made machine, but one made with quality. It is excellent for small Deli's & Restaurants. For home use, it has no peers @ the $286 price range.
Hope this helps for those who asked for a review.

I've have the same slicer. After almost cutting my finger of with a Chefs Choice I bought this one. The first one they sent didn't work. Webstaurant replaced it and the new one works just fine. I've used it for home made belly bacon and Canadian bacon, This weekend I will be slicing some Homemade Buckboard bacon. Great slicer.

Thanks Unc., that's the type reply I was looking for. I think it is a great slicer, and for $286.00 money well spent.
Btw, what was the problem you had with the first one?

The motor wouldn't turn. Just had a humming noise when turned on, like the motor was binding up.
