Fishing around Perdido Pass

Anyone fish the rock jetties around the pass in Perdido? Headed there in a few weeks and my boys will want to do some fishing, but I don't want to a charter. Just something to kill a few hours here or there. Seems like some live shrimp on the bottom would work well. Any other areas in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach that are productive?

I haven't fished there, but I damn sure saw a boat worth a couple of million bucks sink there several years ago...hit some underwater jetties or something like that...

I have a house on the north side of Perdido Bay in Pensacola. We catch a good bit from shore fishing there. I don't see why you wouldn't catch anything at the Pass.

i'd call that a bad day of fishin. think the capt was arrested for bui. guy was doing 30 knots right through the jetty.

Cut mullet and squid does pretty good. Also one night I went out caught about 15 specks on a Berkeley jerk shad new penny color. I don't know why or how they must of been a school there or something because I've never caught another speck the last few times I went.

I was just there in April and caught a bunch of spanish off the jetty.
If you have time, go to the GSP about 15 minutes away. Here is a link to the pier. There is a ton of great information on this website to help you fish the entire area:

You can fish the end of the jetties, and under the bridge. I caught a few small reds under the bridge last year, and a bunch of blues the year before.
If you have a half day or even a few hours to spare, do yourself a favor and fish behind the fort at Fort Morgan.
Drive Fort Morgan Rd. until it dead ends at the fort, just pay the $7 and park in the lot, take the pathway on the right towards the water then hang a left. We wore the reds and black drum out last year. TheGreat318 put me on this spot, I will find my thread with step by step instructions from him.
You can buy live bait at Top Gun or Mo's in OB area (both are owned by Mo). Cracked crab can be bought at the small store on Ft Morgan Rd., it is on the left a few miles down near Kiva Dunes.

Sorry about the slow response from Polar Pop. Last I heard, he was looking for a studio apartment in NYC, had developed an accent and a real dickish attitude, was seen hitting up New York's hottest clubs in super tight nylon shirts, and was asking the Admins to change his name to Polar Popazzani.

Two, its not too crowded at all and theres plenty of room. Just get there as early as possible, 6:30-7 or so, thats when the reds, trout, and apparently big arse drum cruise through there. Live shrimp are typically money, but can be a pain to get all the way out there. Dead shrimp work just fine. Bring two basic set ups: popping corks, and the egg sinker deal described in the post above. First week of August is probably the BEST time to fish the Fort. Tight lines.

I was actually doing a little more research on Manhattan, I left slightly intrigued. We were there in August and the fishing was awesome. Dead shrimp (couldnt keep them alive) on the egg sinker was my ticket. My brother caught a few on New Penny Gulp shrimp. Water was pretty choppy the day I was at the fort, so the popping cork was painful to use.
We went out of the parking lot and took a left, walked a few hundred yards and fished the curve, but there really isnt a bad spot to fish in that whole area.
We got swarmed by boats when they saw us pulling fish in back to back.

As an aside, I sent some family down to Ft. Morgan the day after Pop fished it. They didn't get there until 9, but caught an AL limit of specks...and no reds or anything else. Same methods as pop the day before...guess that couple hour time difference is important.
