How is the fishing in and near the bay? Is it similar to fishing Louisiana coastal waters? Thank you.

I can tell you this much. Fish there Friday thru Sunday didn’t catch shite but baby sharks. Used live shrimp and live croakers

Not at all. I grew up fishing Cocodrie and have had a place in BSL for 10 years.

Once you learn how to fish it- it’s fantastic.

Bayou Caddy is more like Louisiana.

Good man made reefs with some action right offshore. The Bay Bridge, you can load up hundreds of pounds of Sheephead if you catch it right.

Cat Island is a different phenomenon- really good.

But the best part is the access to the Biloxi Marsh- now that I know how to fish it, I couldn’t care less about having a place back home.

Mostly. Depends on where you are fishing. Biloxi Marsh or interior marsh is much the same as any other area of marsh in Louisiana. I'd consider barrier island fishing a little different. I tend to fish more hard plastics baits at the islands (both topwater and suspending).

I was with a certain preacher from there as we grew up in Ocean Springs together.

RN got to Cat island, fish the smugglers cove area, or the North side by the east end, in 4 to 6 feet of water with live croakers or shrimp. Bite is early am and about 1 pm probably right before dark, in addition to tide movement.

They like lemon colored, white cocohoe grubs, and Texas chicken MR 51s, glass minnows and silver and black mirror dines

It’s a great fishery, but because of the huge rains and the Pearl River flooding it is fresh water right now. Should get back to normal in a week or so as the Pearl is now down.

I’ve loaded up on specks and redfish many of times wade fishing along the beach in waveland just casting at or past the piles. Gotta catch the tidal changes. Not too far past the piles it dips off.

Last time I wade fished Cat island, we did not get a single bite for the entire afternoon then we limited out between sunset and pitch dark.

You going over to 9 mile / 3 mile or Isle au Pitre / Grand Pass?

Jack Williams Bay sometimes a little bit further South of Martin Island mostly.

Hell, some days I’ll run down as far south as Martin and hop over to the Chandeleurs if I don’t get what I want.

Backside of Isle Au Pitre, I’ll just kinda troll it back and forth when everyone is stacked up at Flatboat.

Or, if it floats your boat, we’ve always done pretty well at Halfmoon. And that’s close.

The list goes on and on….

I used to fish that area in the 90s. Would leave out of Bayou Caddy. Usually cross to 3 mile and sometimes would just keep heading East and come around through Grand Pass.

Caught a lot of fish in the Jack Williams Bay, Karako Bay, Chino Bay and Brush Island area. Before there were limits on flounder, I remember two of us caught 42 flounder just sitting in one spot at Brush Island.

ETA: Never had much luck at Halfmoon Island. Would occasionally pick up a few.

You wouldn’t believe Brush Island now- there’s not a whole lot left. Really Sad.

I guess "near" is a relative term. If your fishing out of an 18ft boat or greater then Biloxi Marsh would certainly fall into area you would consider fishing out of the bay.

I think my favorite thing about the Biloxi Marsh is not having to fight the crowds that most Louisiana areas have.

That being said, if Todd fricking Masson writes an article about how great the redfishing is there you will go from seeing 3 or 4 boats all day to 50 in one single weekend. It was crazy.

Yep- this is why I fell in love with it- no one to run you off, no gated canals, no b.s.

That area is due south of Mississippi, just like Chandeleur. Only reason it's considered Louisiana water is due to the funny business of floating a barrel way back when
