Taking a trip to Bay St. Louis area next weekend without a boat. Has anyone been on the Rutherford Fishing Pier recently? If so, any advice? It'll be myself and my 11 yr old son.

Or, any other fishing recommendations in the area? The Charter Captains are booked solid.

Thanks

I don't fish the piers so I can't tell you anything other than it seems to be hit or miss every day based on the facebook groups I am in. The water in the bay is still pretty dirty from the hurricane.

I assume you have tried Shore Thing, Southern Comfort, Gotta Geaux, and Fisher-man off the top of my head?

Do you have any crab nets? If so I would definitely bring along. You can crab off the pier or along the sea wall.

In this heat, and fishing from shore where it's shallow then sunset through sunrise will be your better fishing period (at night). You can try your hand at floundering as well.

Floundering and crabbing is what I would be focusing on

Are you open to wade fishing?

Thanks for the comments.

I checked with the charters, they are booked solid. I'm on the standby list.

We're not looking to keep fish, just some father/son fishing time, so crabbing and gigging flounder are out.

Most of the piers are still closed due to damage from recent storms. St. Stanislaus just repaired theirs but I'm not sure if it took damage from Ida.
