Fishing canoe advice needed

I'm looking at getting a canoe to run lines and traps in the upper Amite and Tickfaw. The two I'm considering are the Ascend or Seranac. Both 14.5.
Does anyone have any knowledge or opinions on these or possibly another brands? I don't want to spend to much for this other hobby.

Old Town. My cousin and I bought a used one to deer hunt with about 10 or 15 years ago It's still going strong,

Check fB marketplace. There are plenty.

I have been. Mostly kayaks and beat up canoes. Been looking at old town also.
About to retire and this gives me something to piddle around with.
Eta: just looked again. New listing's pop up everyday it appears

Buy used as they are both tough as nails.
I have a wenonah and ot camper and both were bought for 300 apiece.
One of the yokes was broken and fixed it.
Buying new is overkill.

I have a 15 foot old town that been very happy with, got the flat back for small motor, light enough for me to handle myself.

I appreciate the advice. I'm negotiating now with a guy. 15 ft old town with trolling motor. $500

That will save me some money to get more traps to play and experiment with.
Wife doesn't have to question. Lol

I bought a used Old Town Discovery 169 in 2012 for $400. It's seen 300-500 river miles and been a good boat.
It's heavy now, that I'm 13 years older. I'm not tossing it on the roof rack alone any more.

Well I just bought the old town with minkota trolling motor for 500.
Looking forward to using it places other boat can't go.

Grumman Sportboat. Not the easiest canoe to paddle but no worse than a jon boat and more than makes up for it in boat like stability compared to true canoes. Also has a square stern so a trolling motor or even 5-6 HP outboard is possible. The damned things will hold float about a ton. They have been around for ever.

Only experience I have ever had with them were with a 3-6 HP outboards....but they will haul a LOAD in almost no water. They ought to pole well but I think they'd be too much for paddling....might be a good sculling hull though, long and narrow hulls scull well....
