Looking for texas rig casting rod recommendations. Broke my 5 y/o worm rod today. Need new one ASAFP. Budget $100 to $150. Give me your best recommendations on brand, length, action and where to buy. TIA

Probably not a common answer, but I really like the red Johnny morris signature rods from bass pro. A little more than your budget though.

The rod market is nuts these days, I get confused shopping for them
One of the best "Fairly Cheap" ones is still a Berkley Lightning Rod, Walmart has them for probably $65.00.
I have a few of the 7ft medium-heavy power rods I use

Go to local academy and get a Falcon

I have to agree. I have 1 in med/casting and it's one of my favs. I always tell myself I should pick up another one for other uses.

I like a 7’ med heavy for that, myself. Pick up a few in your budget see what you like. Kinda like recommending a bow people like different brands.

I've been using a 6'6" Berkly cherry red rod med heavy I bought for 29.95. Does the job.

This. If it breaks, they'll replace it on the spot. No questions asked.

My two favorites right now are the Powell Endurance 724 and 733. I can't put them down. The 724 is a faster action and better for 1/2 oz plus. It is a great frogger and big buzz bait rod as well. It is a true heavy power stick. I use it for 3/8oz on up weights. The 733 is a medium heavy do it all type of rod. I use it for all of my lighter texas rigs and swimming worms. It casts a long way and the softer tip is great for skipping and roll casts. I am getting another one of each.
If you buy directly from Powell there is no tax and shipping is free: Powell Rod Co
724 on TW
You are not beating these two with anything else at their price point.

Man, if you could find one, All Star WR-1, 6'6" is what I've been using for years. Will really be a bad day when I no longer have any...

It’s not in your budget but hear me out - g loomis GCX 853C JWR. If you can stomach going up to the GLX line I would highly recommend it, but there isn’t a better blank for bumping a 1/4oz Texas rig made. Dealers will take 30% off sticker in person or if you call and order.

I greatly regret selling a Houston made Team All-star IM10 6'6" worm rod. I still have the spider jig version of the same rod. I have a few of the all green ASR series rods as well: worm, spoon, and jerk bait. I will be deeply upset when the spoon and jerk bait ASR's finally break. Those were pretty damn good rods for the price.
My dad never moved on from his All Star Classics. A few are original from the late 80's/early 90's before they became the classic. Those Houston made rods were shite at the time.

7' Falcon Original Heavy. As stated above, Academy is the place to buy it

7’ MH. Lots to choose from. I have a Falcon lowrider I really like.

I think I only had one from that era. I quickly moved on to Castaway when Allstar made the blank change. I have 4 left of those old Castaways and still love them.

Yup, they were very good too. A few of my buddies still fish with the ones that survived, some with the same Calcutta's they put on them originally.
