I'm a long time Leeville, Grand Isle fisherman. As we all know this entire area was wiped out by Ida. I'm looking for a new area an was wondering if the Rigolets area was a good area for specs and reds.

It can be but it takes a bit to figure things out. Some days you may be fishing 15 feet or more depth for trout. Pearl River can muddy things up in a hurry.

frick the rigolets. 3 our of my last 4 trips I didn't even get a bite, let alone a fish. That area is big doo doo. Unless you live there and can waste tons of trips learning the fish patterns your gonna have a bad time.

He’s right, no fish there. STAY AWAY.
Just kidding, It’s just different type of fishing over there. Probably not gonna wear em out everytime with a popping cork and a live shrimp/vudu 2ft under a cork. The tide, wind, salinity, type of bait in the lake, and pearl river are all factors in where the fish are and if they’ll bite.
The matrix guy and several guides over there are catching some type of inshore fish pretty much year round. They are around to be caught.

You are so correct the place is terrible. Stay in Dulac.

Try where the intracoastal runs into West Pearl near the train tressel. Run back up the ICW. had luck on north side between ICW and train track and on north side of train track. can do well with reds in those duck ponds when tide is high.
Polecat bend can be good at times. Dont waste time pitching the rocks like you may in the MRGO. fish the cuts running out of marsh in Lake B in polecat.
In actually lake B (between east and west Pearl) you can catch birds diving along shipping channel. Caught quite a few reds doing this in early august.
on side note, the water in rigolets is the factor everyone hates playing. if pearl river is up water is muddy. if east wind water is muddy. if west wind water is muddy. if sky is blue water is muddy. for some reason it is always muddy. then you get a random day or two in which the water is as pretty as you could ever want and thats what keeps you going back wasting time to snag 2 sting rays, 4 trout under 12" and a croaker.
anytime on water is better than staying at home, but look into going to Delacroix or Hopedale and keep yourself from wanting to drop boat off at the pawn shop on the way home

It’s not really an area casual anglers catch a ton of fish. And what I mean by that it’s not like your fishing the barges in fourchon where anyone can do it if it’s “on.”I think a lot of the people who complain about the rigolets anchor up, cast a dead shrimp, and get mad when they don’t catch anything but catfish. This area requires you to really want to catch them, meaning some days if not most you will have to grind. The best days are ahead, if you can find low wind morning with a falling tide you should be able to catch some fish.
If you’ve got the boat for it cross lake Borgne and the water is usually better over in Biloxi Marsh, but that’s a whole ball game.

Hire a guide. Pick his brain. Not about spots more than it is conditions. You can catch absolute stud trout there at times. Flounder fishing can be good as well. Reds are usually around. Just have to put your time in.

Hit the bayous and ponds off the ICWW and pick up reds and bass. You won't light the world on fire like in Delacroix or something, but the fishing isn't total shite. Find clearer, moving water and throw a spoon or spinner.

What kind of boat do you need for that?

not too much. we have a 20' deep v and it's easy.
could be rough in a little flats boat or something on some days.
