Going river fishing in December and we will be fishing from kayaks and wading. North Georgia early-mid December. Any recommendations for waders?

Also, anyone fished like this? Words of wisdom? I'm going with some buddies and have never fished like this. Gonna use a spinning reel and rod.

How often will you actually use them?

If not much go to cabelas and get a cheap pair.

If more than a few times get Simms Freestones….wont break the bank but is a good wader. Mine are going on 7 years. They also have lasted long because I don’t go walking through sticker bushes to get to the river.

I have White River wade boots that also have lasted 7 years. Bought em at Bass Pro/Cabelas…..forget which one.

Again I’m not a real bank fisherman otherwise I’d have Korker boots.

If you have more than one bring 2. Rig one with a spinner and one the way they want you to.

It’s a pain/time consuming to switch setups on the river.

I’m not trout fishing but I’m carrying 2 bait casting float rods, one for eggs and the other has beads on it. I’m also carrying a spinning rod setup with a twitching jig. I’ve got a spinning setup with a spinner. Then my 2 plug rods.

Find out typical depths and see if you need chest waders or waist high waders and go cheap.

Look for used neoprene waders and and buy some oversized shoes at your local goodwill that will fit over your neoprenes.

Unless you want to look like a G, then reevaluate.

Don't go cheap on your PFD.

I would recommend a pair of stocking-foot neoprene waders. You can pair them with some felt-soled wader shoes for river fishing and lug-soled wader shoes for hunting. This is the setup I use.

Might want to get some fleece wader pants to wear under them, too.

You’ll need a wader belt, too.

High n Dry are the only waders worth buying. They actually last. They is no b.s. to them, just a simple design. I can't say enough good about them.

Man I was thinking why don’t I just buy duck hunting waders. What’s the deal with the shoes? Will duck waders work?

They would somewhat work. The trouble is, when you wade in streams, you need felt soles or you’ll slip on rocks. When you Wade in mud (duck hunting) you need regular lug soles.

If you buy “stocking foot” waders you can just buy the appropriate wader shoe for whatever your activity is. I only have one pair of waders and just wear felt soles when I am fly fishing and lug soles when I am duck hunting.

Depends on the conditions of the rocks. You can slip.

Korkers come with spike soles and felt soles.

If you’re fishing a stream you could just avoid wading and be on the bank. If you know how to cast you’ll be fine.

You said you won’t be doing this much so look at what you want to spend and try and cut corners where you can.

It isn’t an expensive hobby overall but your initial investment is where most of your costs come from.
