Looking for a flounder gigging charter for my sons in May. Waiting to hear back from one guy in Mississippi who does Cat Island, but I was wondering if there are other options out there as well (Louisiana or Mississippi). Any suggestions?

When in my teens-----a lifetime ago now, my cousins and I would walk in the shallows along the Mississippi Gulf Coast in the Waveland and Gulfport area with Coleman lanterns and gigs and catch quite a few flounder at night.

Just have to be aware of the stingrays though as one of my cousins got a barb in his calf one time.

I don't know how well you'd do now though as it's been years since I went gigging for flounder. Perhaps someone with more recent experience will respond.

Below are the lights we use now.

Probably not as many out there as back in the day but still some to be had.

My Grandpa lived in Ocean Springs and we would wade some of the beaches, the best would have been Horn or Ship Island for the clarity, but no way would we have trusted our boats back then to try that at night.

We used a Coleman lantern with a cutoff shovel handle and a stainless dog bowl for a reflector bolted on.

My Dad and Grandpa were quite...innovative.

Do you have to have a fishing license to go floundering? I'm assuming yes, but just checking to make sure. TIA

yes you need a saltwater fishing license. Some states have gigging specific seasons and regulations
