That's my thoughts. The OP has a 15'6" which is a small boat and weighs 245 lbs., but the Gheenoe 15'4" weighs 130 lbs. (the high end of SOT kayak weights these days) and is classed as a canoe... but can still take a 10hp outboard and carry a load.
It looks about perfect for rivers and backwaters in South MS for fishing and camping and even in Arkansas for trout and smallmouth fishing. And it looks like Gheenoe will build one how you want it. And the things cost the same or less than a nice SOT kayak.
I just don't see how you can go wrong.

Edit: I now see you have a front deck that the cooler is sitting on. If you know, how high does your cooler (whatever size it is) sit in relation to the gunwales when off of the front deck and on the floor of the boat?
I can get a measurement tonight when I get home, but it never leaves the front deck. What I have on mine is a low front deck and I think that Gheenoe makes anything lower than the low front deck. Anything that you want done Gheenoe can do for you. They're very easy to work with.

What's the stability like on that platform? And how is it poling?
Very stable. It poles extremely easily with no wind. I leave a little of the motor in the water to help it track straight but it's very easy to pole with little wind. Haven't had it out in the wind yet but I'm assuming the trolling motor will be used then.

After 7 years of hardcore kayak fishing, I can honestly say that I don't miss it

Gheenoe 15'4"
My buddy just got his LT10 last weekend. It's just slightly bigger than the 15'4.

I like those, too, but they seem slightly less optimal for paddling, and 150 lbs. is 20 lbs. more than the 15"4'.
Has your buddy paddled his LT10?

He hasn't taken it out yet.
I've fished from one of my other friend's 13'er and it's very easy to paddle.

There's a Gheenoe Mfr. dealer just up the road from where I live. I think I'll run up there and look at what they have in stock and take some coolers with me to check them out.
There is no boat that is perfect for everything, but for what I do I can't see going wrong with a Gheenoe that I can put a 9.9 on or paddle.

Your buddy make those platforms for a living ? Just curious how much something like that platform cost.

I've got a custom built classic with 18hp copperhead on it.
I have put that boat through hell.
Plan to install false floor before duck season. I want that 25hp you have with a jack plate

I sold my flats boat and got a yak for a short time before I moved. People like to say it's easier to just get out and fish. To me, the boat was so much easier and I could get to many of the same spots and had more range. Obviously the cost was the major difference.
I looked at Gheenoe's online in the past out of curiosity. I fished a lot by myself when I couldn't find someone to go with. If you can pole yourself around and feel comfortable casting from the platform, sounds like something I would be interested in getting if I went back to LA. I've seen where a lot of people just pole from the front of them too when fishing alone to level the boat out more. Fished out of a surface drive for a while that had a platform, and the stability was awful when up there.

Bumping this thread, can't see the pics anymore cause photobucket sucks, but I do recall them. I'm ok with getting a used classic or lt25, but I'm not sure what kind of layout I would need to have the seat in the back with either the stick steer or center console. I'm looking, to buy/build something like the pics below. I'm not opposed to getting something used and rebuilding it. Sorry for the amount of images, I'm slightly obsessed.

Any of you good at fiberglass?
I need one of those false floors in my gheenoe badly

Do you know about the FB group, Gheenoeholics? If not join that. You will see plenty of used Gheenoes for sale on that page. Or you can post what you are looking for an a seller would probably respond. It is also a good place to ask guys questions about thier rigs or the boat in general. Most of the sellers are out of Florida on the used market, so you would have to be willing to deal with that.
I'm sure you already know about the forum on Customgheenoe.com
I have considered these boats for a while and if it was me. I would be looking to buy a used classic. The classic to me seems to be the best mix of performance vs value.
I like the Lt 25 but the used market seems to be a little high for me. For instance, I just saw a loaded out really nice used LT25 on the FB page for $9000. While a nice boat, I would give pause on buying one for $9000. You could have a lot more choices of boats in that same price range.
Used classics are priced much better. Now if your buying new, just find one of the dealers and go from there with your order.
You could also use the FB page to setup a ride along with someone. It would be a good idea to ride in one if you haven't before you commit to buying one. I rode in a classic and liked it a lot, (wet ride in certain conditions) but I'm still not sure it meets my needs on Texas windswept lakes and bays. I'm still thinking about them however.

2nd to last picture looks legit imo, and I don't really care for the way gheenoe look.

I actually like the 3rd pic down the best. I'm a big fan of the aluminum center console with that seat behind it. I originally wanted the stick steer, but after seeing this I'm changing my mind.

Yeah the aluminum center console is awesome. For me, I like to maximize the space in the boat so I went tiller. If you're in LA I'd be happy to let you drive it around one day.
