Guy wants $1,000 for a basic shoulder mount of a white tail deer. Is that a good price or am I getting ripped off?

You can get a nice shoulder mount in the $450 - $600 range in the Monroe area

Yeah, seems kind of high, but I’m not up to date on deer mounts really.
Haven’t killed a mountable deer in 7 or 8 years, but was in a group of guys talking about it the other day. Seems like if you want a good job and get it back within a year, it’s going to be about $600 in the MS Delta. Personally, I might would pay a little more for higher quality or a quicker turnaround.

Locally the good guys charge $600 but have a waiting time of a year. They could basically name their price at this point

Dropped one off at my guy in Texas a couple weeks ago and it was $750. Paid $1050 with tax for the buck mount and a Nilgai Bull skull mount.
I said damn that’s high and they said materials have gone up 35%. Used to be in the 575 to 600 dollar range.
Only way I’m paying $1000 is if that person is one of the better people in the state and it’s a once in a lifetime type deer.
I paid $900 for my Nilgai mount a few years ago so I’m guessing they are north of $1200 now.

No, just an ol boy I’m referring to here in Houma. It’s not some big trophy deer, just an average size but it’s my son’s first.

You're getting hosed. I have one getting mounted now for $500 and it'll be top notch.

Lots of guys I know have been using the European skull mount more and more. Deer, goats, hog and some elk, it’s much cheaper in most cases.
It’s kinda getting to where it’s got to be something pretty special like their child’s first decent buck or wife’s first bow kill or a rack that is a class they normally don’t kill or expect to kill often.

I have picked up 3 mounts in the last couple of months. 2 in Newelton we're $550 each and one at Poindexter's in Mangham was $600. These are all on a board. I think it's $50 less without the board

Dropped off my son’s buck to him in January of last year and picked it up in September. Was $680 but came out pretty good. Will update with a pic later.

I have one nice euro. I don’t want any more. If he is not shoulder mount quality, i would rather just let him pass.
