Looking for a puppy, having troubling deciding between these two.
Pros cons of each would be helpful. Not looking to hunt, just an active and easy to train dog

Goldens are great dogs, I would go with a black or yellow lab stay away from Chocolate labs . Had all of them good breed of yellow or black lab easy to train great family dogs, you will enjoy for many years.

Any particular reason about staying away from chocolate?
Have considered a black lab as well. Yellow may be a good compromise

We have a golden named Nelson that my wife got at Triple L in Many, LA. He’s been a great family dog and if that’s what you’re looking for it’s tough to go wrong.
Labs also generally have friendly temperaments but I’ve found that my golden sheds less than brother’s lab. Since lab fur is short and falls out often, there’s more to clean up. Goldens also shed a good bit but the hair grows longer before doing so.
He’s also really good with my young babies.

He looks like a really good dog!
We’re leaning more golden, but just wanted to get some first hand experiences to have an idea

Had a chocolate long time ago not nearly as smart as the black and yellow labs I had, I ask Robert Milner who owns Duck Hill kennels and founder of wild rose kennels who I consider a expert and not remembering everything he said but did say you won’t see any chocolate labs in his kennels. He s super nice and would talk to you about I it I am sure. I am no expert just going on my experience and talking to experts. I have used my labs for hunting but first they are our pets and part of the family. I have a 10 year old yellow lab now.

Chocolate labs are known for being a bit hardheaded and more difficult to train.
Not all, but there are plenty that are.

Have had both chocs and goldens. Prefer chocs. Both are great dogs, found the choc to have less “teenage-boy-like-foolishness” than the golden. Doesn’t mean I don’t like goldens, just prefer chocs. Have a white lab now (Maggie); she is fantastic, but not quite as good as our last choc.

All of my experienced with Chocolates have been better than with Yellow and Blacks. In my experience they are much calmer and laid back.

Can you tell me how to get to the parallel dimension where you live?
I want to try sweet lemons and sour sugar

GFs old neighbor had a really well bred pit behind an 8 ft garden wall at his office while he worked. She was only used for showing and he was planning to breed her at 2 years with a top male.
Well "rosco" the neighborhood mutt of a chocolate lab decided an 8ft brick wall wasn't enough to stop him from getting some.
The result was a single puppy. Who was the essence of all thing everyone says their pits are and everything a chocolate lab is. He was easily the hardest dog I've ever had to train. Highly intelligent and willfully disobedient

Three years in and he is a damned good dog who understands hand commands and looks very well.
But dear god.

Both fit that bill. Both are smart and trainable. I have had Goldens for thirty plus years. My best friend Labs for the same period. Both are great family animals. If you purchase a field grade Golden they are very high energy. I'm assuming the same for Labs. You get a neighborhood bred Golden they can be lazy SOBs. Lots of shedding hair with a Golden though. Labs live longer though.

Lost all credibility when you said Milner, Duckhill, Wild Rose’. All color says is the gene pool is a bit shallower as the color changes, ratios and shite. Chocs tend to be soft, in turn that is deemed dumb, disobedient, hard headed when in actuality, they are very smart. Brown dogs take less pressure on average and someone with gray matter between the ears to figure them out.
Ppro may be along shortly to add.
Goldens from the right litters are great pets and hunters. Personally, I would contact a golden rescue group. Way too many goldens get short shrift because someone wanted one without doing any work.

Know of some now that are about 4 weeks old. The mom is a golden and the dad is a chocolate. They all have the color of the dad. I am sure the people will be giving them away for free. They have 11 pups.
Oh, mom and dad do have papers, but I'm sure the owner will not get them for the pups.

I understand, I have heard things also don’t dispute you, you sound like you have a lot more knowledge about that than I do, just putting my 2 cents in to help out.

It’s good DW, anytime the charlatans are mentioned I get the chew rouge. A good dog is a good dog no matter what color. Ammo is a choc female derby champ that has a waiting list of A owners for breedings.

My eight year old. She's a little white in the face now. It's her usual winter sleeping place after I get up.

I don't think you can go wrong between the two.
Some people say labs chew more when they are puppies but my golden chewed on and ate his fair share around the house as a young puppy. Never peed or deuced in the house though so I guess it balances out. Shedding can be bad couple times a year but the a Roomba helps out with that.
