Looking for something more comfortable for longer walk ins I have been doing lately, that can also be taken out west and tolerate some decent amount of side hilling. Right now I am using lacrosse arrowheads for everything. I have done a lot of research but want some opinions from the ob. I mostly hunt in north Texas on public land, mostly flat but do get down to the hill country and west TX. Planning an elk trip to NM or ID soon as well.
ETA: Have been looking at Danner Pronghorns, meindl's, as well as some others. I have heard good things about the Solomon quest 4d gen3 as well.

Funny you should ask this. Been doing some research, along with some posters here, including mylsuhat.
I ordered the Danner pronghorns and the Scarpa R-Evolution.
Gonna try both on for fit and return one or both if necessary. I'm buying for elk trip in September

I have the Schnees Timberline (9" tall) and love them. Bought them for Elk in Colorado and use them all the time when I don't need knee boots. The Schnees Outlook Evo (6" tall) is on sale now
Look at Crispi and Solomon as well
I like uninsulated for September elk in the high country
These are all a little on the pricey side but the quality and customer service is impeccable

Love my pronghorns , break them in before season starts .

I like uninsulated 100% of the time.
Those schnees are badass. Right now I do my mountain hunting in redwing loggers
Great boots but they are ignorantly heavy and steel toed. I did fine hiking around arapahoe in late october with them

My frame of reference isn't hunting but I've done a fair amount of "hiking" in central Asia and other parts of the world. Not a huge fan of Solomons; I've run through every pair I've owned although I've never used the Quest 4d and I do think they're the most overbuilt offering Solomon has.
For my money though:
GTX- Asolo fugitives have been tops for me. Bomb proof, provide good stability without inhibiting articulation of the foot. With a good set of gaitrs they're basically knee boots.
Non GTX- Lowa zephyrs. Pretty much same as above except non waterproof and they dry fairly quickly.

Russell Moccasin. Expensive but will outlast and out perform multiple pairs of lower quality boots. Choose you leather, sole, insulation, height, etc. Mine have lasted > 12 years following bird dogs all over LA, SD, WI, IA, and TX. Have had them resoled twice.

If you look at Blackovis, they are having a sale on Crispi boots.
Just FYI.

Are Irish Setter boots generally thought of as a step below the other brands listed?

I have a pair. Russell's are custom made boots. I was fitted in April of last year and I received them in September. They fit better out of the box than leather boots that I had walked for hundreds of miles.

That is what I have gathered in my research so far, but I am no expert.

Those look super nice, and super expensive.

What pair did you get? I have the Art Carter Chukkas and love them. Have hunted throughout southern Africa and south Texas with no regrets. Russells are the best

also, anyone have White's?
I was considering US-made/assembled Chippewa soft-toed loggers for fall boot since Lacrosse has turned their Grange kneeboot into green rubber garbage.

I think I have the Imperial with the French Veal leather with a few changes.

I have the danner pronghorn. They're a great boot. I used them in Nebraska mule Deer hunting and the ms delta deer hunting.

I just finished season 2 of Irish Setter snake boots. They’ve stayed comfortable throughout long days, and I hunt exclusively on WMAs right now so I walk everywhere. Waterproofing has held up very well. TIFWIW
Edit: I understand not everyone needs or wants snake boots. But I purposely looked for something comfortable that I’d want to wear. I’m scared to death of snakes and like having the piece of mind.

Check out the Le Chameau rubber boots. I have lower-end pair that has a MRP around $200 and they have lasted for 5+ years and they are still going strong. The rubber is soft and they are very comfortable. I have worn them walking many, many miles bird hunting in south Louisiana.
