So I’m redoing our beds this weekend. We currently have no mulch because it’s a relatively new house and I’ve just never gotten around to it. At our old house our termite contractor always told us to remove the mulch from against the foundation. My fear is if we ever do get termites it will all be on us because of the mulch. So I’m thinking of putting a 5” gravel border against the foundation then a metal barrier and the the mulch for the beds. Does anyone know if this will satisfy their recommendations? I’d call them but they’re office is closed today and I all of a sudden have some free time and wanted to do it today. TIA

Yes a rock border between flowerbeds and foundation will satisfy the termite contractor. I would go wider than 5” to give you and the termite guy more space to work/walk. My rock border is 15” from the foundation to beds.

Also make sure you use medium size rocks and not pea gravel. That crap will get everywhere and be a mess even if you use a border.

No idea if this is spec (was done before we moved in) but it's a bit over 20" wide.

We are about to do this @ our house. Are you planning to add a French drain while you're at it or just add the rocks to have a barrier between foundation and mulch?

Put down a weed mat before you drop the rocks.

We just finished ours today. 16 inches from the house so we can walk behind the bed for weeding or spraying for bugs. I had a dump truck bring me 3 tons of 1 1/2 river rock from the concrete plant. Hell of a lot cheaper than buying it in bags.

Can you convert this to yards for me?
