Toledo Bend chartered boat capsized-two people dead.
Terrible story on guided fishing expedition when large wave capsizes pontoon boat. Did the captain watch the weather and give out life jackets?

I wonder if this is the guy we went out with in early covid.
Dude was clueless.

I don’t know who you went with, but the guide in this incident was very familiar with the lake and grew up guiding. His step dad has guided for as long as I can remember. It wasn’t from a lack of experience or knowledge. It was a terrible, freak accident.

I know of a guide in Tennessee that had a bad accident like this years ago. Dude had been guiding for over 30 years.
Bad things happen and sometimes, its very difficult to make the correct decisions in the heat of things. I have no clue on the Toledo bend accident, just saying its easy to judge when your boat and crew is not the one going through the accident.
It is why a lot of larger boats go through drills to make sure people know what to do

Is there anymore info on this accident? How did they drown? It’s a party barge. Jump off. Could they not swim? Did it knock them out?
I wasn’t there obviously, but it seems like they could have done something to survive.
Tragic.

My guess is they could have been trapped inside a cabin. A lot of guides on Toledo Bend have pontoons with enclosed cabins.

The first thing I would had done is put PFD's on everyone.

Former water survival instructor for offshore. Water is a strange thing. You can see guys who swim like a fish, are extremely comfortable, some are even dive certified who absolutely FREAK OUT once that simulator flips in the water. A lot of guys just get simply disoriented and lose their cool and can't recover.

They had on life jackets. They were inside the cabin on the pontoon and could not get out in time.

This is what I suspected.
Life jackets on out of caution, in cabin to shelter from elements, flip over pins them up and prevents them from swimming out.

Took a rental out to crab island once, a little one with like a 50 on it. Didnt think I was overweight and had folks all in the front loungers, storm came up as we were plodding back and I could not keep the bow out of the waves, it was awful. I had all passengers put PFD on and even lowered the top, checked everyones PFD, had one guy that tells me he cant swim!, my daughter was a lifeguard and outstanding swimmer, i asked her to watch for him and told him to not panic, to just lay there.
Got everyone in rear of pontoon and putted back, and made it safely. But having 12-18 inches of water rush thru the damn thing will wake you up in a hurry. If it had been a real freak wave, we would have been in real trouble. I learned alot that day. I am a moderately experienced boater, and wasnt prepared.

Didn't something like 15 people die in duck boat with similar circumstances? Life jackets on and the boat flipped over and they were trapped inside?

I respectfully disagree. He took chances, rolled the dice and got 2 people killed. There are dozens of weather apps that alert you way in advance of upcoming weather. If you're a professional maybe have a radar on your boat.
It was not a freak accident. The dude got caught in bad weather and got 2 people killed. He should be ashamed of himself.

The guide we were going with today, but canceled this morning, was out there with the guide that boat got overturned. He said he barely made it to shore before his pontoon flipped. It wasn't a case of not watching the weather apps. Storm pop up outta nowhere and caught everybody on the lake by surprise

They were saying that there was 8’ waves at Pembleton Bridge at the time of the accident.
The woman had just retired and her daughter had medical conditions. They were the two that drowned.
