Red flags laws seems like a good thing on the surface, but could be manipulated terribly if you piss the wrong person off.

All power is like that, unfortunately. We give power to police or whoever, we see it get abused, we (sometimes) dial it back.

I don't have a good answer on Red Flag laws other than they need a lot of oversight.

I could have, instead of using the shorthand "fudd", said "people who claim to value the second amendment but really only care about how any regulations personally impact them" suck, but the shorthand is easier.

Name calling people who may reasonably be inspired to do more to protect gun rights, isn’t the best way to win people over.

You aren’t going to get people to care about regulations that they think, won’t impact them, by acting like you’re better and calling them a fudd. It’s pretty much just going to cause immediate resistance to anything else you’ve got to say.

there is nothing nefarious about a background check. I don’t want felons or the mentally ill using the legal market to acquire firearms (yes they can get them elsewhere but so can I). I don’t want domestic abusers, repeat offenders, violent radicals and other jackasses using the legal market either.
from 10,000ft of course. But there is a background check system in place. What they want if for you to have to get a background check on me for you to sell it to me. All this does is creates a list. A list for them to start checking off when they try to take them away.

AND we all know the ATF keeps 4473s. when by law they are supposed to be destroyed. They have been caught multiple times.

And if you let the dems mess with the background check system as is, they will start adding disqualifiers (red flag laws) to it where, because you were seen wearing a red hat.....you on the list.... the red hat could be a Cincinnati hat, but someone thought it was a MAGA hat. extremely slippery slope.

Same reason that "hate speech" should be the most protected form of speech. because the moment it is illegal.... anything can be deemed hate speech and their goes the 1st.

The NRA needs to get on the Trump Train

1. The NRA is useless. You're better off supporting the FPC, GOA, and NAGR.
2. Trump has a less than stellar record on the 2A. He supported broad reaching red flag laws, implemented the unconstitutional bump stock ban, and wanted to violate the 2nd, 4th, and 14th amendment by wanting to "take the guns first, due process second."

The third post in this topic accused people of falling for scare tactics and he freely admitted he didn't care if another assault weapons ban was passed. I disagree with your notion that people like that can be reasonably inspired to care at all, much less take any action.

Solid post except for this last part.

That’s pretty shortsighted. Clarence Thomas won’t be around forever. The power of the presidency is in the SCOTUS nomination process. We can’t afford any more Sotomayor’s or biologists on the bench.

I thought that was odd phrasing as well. If you support the left because you really don't care about gun control, fine, but just come out and say it.

The NRA isn’t useless, but I agree there are better organizations to support. I still wouldn’t write off supporting the NRA if you can afford to as well, as aggravating as they may be.

Good point about Trump, but unfortunately with our political system, it always seems to be a choice of the lesser of two evils.

Fortunately for us though, the president has limited powers which is why Obama couldn’t do everything he wanted to. The funny part is Kamala saying this when she’s been a part of the administration that hasn’t been able to do what they say they want to. That’s not a reason to brush it off though. If we get relaxed about voting, things could change dramatically.

Edit: SoFla made a good point too, Supreme Court nominees have a tremendous impact. That’s really where we should be worried about who gets into the White House.

What other rights do you want to give up for a decade?

Never mind.

Yea, he doesn't care about background checks either. I bet a guy named John Smith cares, because he gets delayed every time for them to sift through all the John Smiths. Or when they make private sales require background checks, because when you give an inch they take a mile.

You are right but we cannot rely only on a patriotic USSCT. We must at all levels vote for pro sportsmen politicians will support the right to hunt, fish and trap and full advance Second Amendment rights. We need to eliminate the issue of gun control as a means to solve the criminal mentality. As it stands now being shot is the only deterrence left to someone contemplating a crime.

NRA has basically become just a business. I'm not even convinced they try hard anymore other than wanting your dues.

Having said that, ain't no one taking anybody's guns easily.

Do you have specific language qualifying “mentally ill?”

Be careful. You’re playing with fire. There exists in our country a well funded, organized group of politicos who literally think there’s more than two genders and it’s okay for men to pretend to be women.

News flash: those freaks aren’t considered “mentally ill,” but conservative men who question that line of thinking are labeled “weird.”

I understand where you’re coming from but don’t underestimate the aggression from some on the left toward gun ownership. It’s a real thing.

If Joe Burrow were stupid enough to support the Dem agenda and he had the guts to show up on my doorstep to ask for my firearms, I would simply ask him ask to disappear instantly or we could test his 40 to see if he can outrun 1400 ft per second.

An autograph would be enough to get you to trade in your freedom??

You are quite the spineless coward of an American. Weak & Pathetic.
