I have two TFO rods (I am orig owner) that were my favorite rods until both large guides broken under normal use. The guides are my only complaint.

I had someone tell me to just cut them up with lopers and send it in. But Im wondering if since its only a guide issue, am I supposed to ship the whole rod?

quote:

If a TFO product is broken or damaged as a result of typical wear and tear, accidents, smashed guides or even abuse, no problem. For a small fee TFO provides thorough and timely product repairs. TFO will always repair or replace (at no cost to the customer) any product with faulty workmanship or manufacturing defects. If you believe your rod suffers from faulty workmanship or manufacturing defects, let us know your concerns when you send the rod to us and we’ll discuss the situation with you before we do any work or incur any costs.

I certainly think their guides are very thin. Is it worth it to call them and be open and honest with them on that blanks are OK?

Anyone on the OB sent in a TFO rod and share experience?

Years ago I sent in a 7’6” 5 wt. that I’d broken the tip on. I can’t remember if I just sent in the end section or the whole thing. They handled it flawlessly, and I think I just paid shipping one way. But to my mind the new section was a little slower than the original. I’m not sure their warranty policy was the same back then, and I also don’t remember how the tip got broken.

I wouldn’t go intentionally destroying a rod to attempt to take advantage of their warranty policy. That seems like it would backfire bigly.

I have a hard time believing you would be better off basically destroying the rod versus just sending it to them for guide repair. Call them and see what they suggest, but I’d be willing to bet all you end up doing is dropping both rods off at a UPS/fedex store and they package and ship for you. You may have to pay the shipping to them but my assumption is the “small fee” is a lot smaller for a guide or two versus what will be a new rod if you break the blank.

I second the recommendation to call them. I broke a BVK and just drove over to their warehouse and $25 later had a new one. They even gave me a hat while I waited.

Fly rod or spinning/baitcaster rod?

I think they would accept a fly rod no issues. I would call customer service for returning a spinning/conventional rod.

I think it's a $25 fee for fly rod returns. Last time I checked you can return a spinning/baitcaster to a store that deals TFO and pay a fee and pick a replacement and they will deal with sending back.
