Homemade Bait Tanks for shad

I made a bait tank for shad a few months ago with a filter from Amazon. It had been doing great. Then the other day, it the filter clogged and it burnt the little motor. About 50 nice shad down the drain. Made me appreciate how it had been working even keeping shad alive in 100 plus temps.
I'd really like a Grayline bait tank (made in Kingston, OK) but I'd have to give up too much space in my boat.

What size tank and what kind of pump did you use?
Making a shad tank is easy, keeping it cool is the hard part or expensive part.

Remind me what you call little catfish? Sorry, off topic.

I'm using a 20 gallon insulated tank with filter and pump. Add rock salt, ice, Shad Keeper and G Juice.
I've never had a problem keeping them alive no matter how hot it is.
The best I made that I use when it's just me is a 10 gallon round water cooler thing that I bought online from Lowe's. I drilled a small hole in the top, removed the alligator clips and fed the pump cord through then reattached the clips. It'll hold about 30 shad forever and the whole thing was like 70 bucks.

Fiddlers.
But yeah temp is crucial but another thing is round and oval tanks. Those things are so stupid they will literally stick their nose in the corner of a normal livewell and kill themselves.

I made one out of one of those 26 gal Tuff Stuff feed buckets from tractor supply. Cut a hole in the top and drop in one of those bait saver circulating aerators Or you can get a white food grade can in way at we size you want.
Main thing is to keep the water cool so I drop in frozen milk jugs beforehand Also don’t put too many in there. Threadfin aren’t that bad but gizzard shad suck
