Anyone here having problems or have fixed problems with ES not going into reverse or generally just not shifting every time?

Yup, the answer was to shift it with a wrench. I hate to tell you, but it is only your fault for buying an ES. I haven't ever seen one that shifted as good as a manual.
I never understood why people feel the need to have a 4 wheeler ride like a car. I mean, power steering for Christ's sake? Just stick with what works and you wont have any problems. Mid-sized manual shift 4x4 bare bones(except for the meats) will last you at least 10 years

No offense, but this is the exact reason I bought the manual.
Hope you get it fixed though.

Have you checked that the little button on the handlebar, the lever, and the cable they pull are functioning properly?
9/10 times if a honda won't go into reverse, that cable is not being pulled.

I know, I know I kick myself everyday, but it is easier for wife and kids.

They gotta grow up some time

I mean, hell, I learned how a manual transmission worked from riding dirt bikes and 4 wheelers

I bet your battery is not charged. I have an Rancher ES and keep a trickle charger on mine. Try charging it for a bit and see if this helps
just because the battery has enough juice to start the bike doesnt mean its enough to shift gears

The ES is a pain in the arse
ok in this order
buy the shifter wrench and keep it with the bike keys at all times.
when it does not shift, stop bike and kill engine. turn key back on and down shift to N then crank and shift to desired gear in as short of time as possible.
to repair the prolem
check the cable switch and the cable itself
check the battery charge and the ability to hold the charge
check the engine oil level
check (replace) the angle sensor
take apart the clutch and trans and clean and repair or send to a shop
enjoy 1-2 yrs of good riding then slowly progress back through the same process.
On third round of going through the process take out insurace on your bike. When bike leaves ou stranded as it will not shift pull out Judge shoot it and burn it down the claim the insurance and buy a manual.
good luck

Ive had 2 bikes with electric shift and never had an issue. The only times ive had any trouble is with a low battery. Thats why I keep the trickle charger on. Maybe I just take care of my shite better than most
the worst thing about ES in my opinion is it can get difficult while drinking a beer but I have adapted and shift with my pinky

There is an ATV repair guy in St Amant, Mr Ray Kelly that can fix it.
I also have an ES. if it breaks I'll get it fixed.

I have a buddy that ran an Atv shop for a few years. I know on the Foreman 450 ES model it was common for the angle sensor to go out and cause a similar issue to what you're having. Not too familiar with the 500's but this could be a possibility.

Had a Rancher 350 that had the same issue. Called my mechanic guy and he said to check where the cable connects to the back of the motor. Sure nuff it was broken off. Come to find out my father in law loaned it to a guy at the camp and he took it through a clear cut. Replaced the connector and glued that sum beech down and never had that issue again.
Also had an issue with it not shifting, the gear would blink in a code fashion, supposedly to tell u what's wrong. I stopped turned it off and back on and go again. Finally had to change the angle sensor.
Will say this I had hat bike for 5 years before I had to change he battery. Kept it another year and bought a manual 500. Love it just as much.

I have a 03 Foreman 450 es and a 08 Rubicon 500 with es. no issues with the Rubicon mainly use it in auto. The Foreman only has shifting issues with it is cold once it warms up it shifts fine.

I think we had this conversation a while back too. I have an uncle that lives on Wards Chapel does all the Christmas lights every year. That's my Mom's brother. If that gives you a hint. I think you are related to some guys that I go to Colorado to hunt with. Last name H...s
