As of last Sunday when the time changed, the Honey Island Shooting Range is now on Summer hours.
Friday 11am - 4pm
Sat & Sun 8am - 6pm
And if the resolution to end Daylight Savings Time, that was recently passed in the Senate makes it thru the House, we may never go back to winter hours.

Can you shoot clay there or just rifle/pistol range?

Is it still $6 and kids free?

I went for the first time a few months ago to sight in a rifle, was impressed with the place. I'm not sure why but I had reservations about safety going to a range at a WMA but boy I was wrong! Top notch place ya'll run over there.

You can shoot everything there. It was recently revamped. The clays are awesome as they have multiple styles and the north wind makes it sporty. Pistol and 22 range is the best across the Florida parishes. Rifle range is only 100yrds though. Plinking steel is available at every firing line.
I love this range. It’s safe, ppl are cool and helpful, range officers are very cool and very vigilant. HISR can sometimes get a bad wrap for safety, but they have two ROs per firing line and they are very in the ball. At least, they have been since the reopening.

We have a sporting clay line with 3 "lanes". Each lane has 1 outbound and 1 inbound thrower. Throwers are operated by remote control. Lane 2's, the center lane, outbound thrower also oscillates so each throw will go out at a different angle(can be turned off if shooter wants 1 direction). We also offer a rabbit thrower that goes across all 3 lanes.
There is an additional cost of $5 per box of shells you bring with you to shoot. Do not bring your own clays. We provide those. The $5 is how we recoup the cost of those clays. We buy them by the truck load.

Thank you. As far as I'm aware, you won't find a Range Officer presense like we have at HISR at any of the other state ranges in Louisiana. Almost 30 years ago a group of shooting enthusiasts got together to form the organization that now manages the range for the state when they saw the safety concerns with large crowds and minimum range officer coverage. South East Louisiana Firearms Safety, Inc. SELFS Inc. We're a Non-profit organization consisting of about 120 active range officers plus nearly a dozen trainees at any time.

How busy does the range get? Are there typically wait times?

Sorry I'm just seeing this.
I honestly can't tel you how the crowds are from day to day.
There's some weekends that the weather is gorgeous and I think we're going to be swamped but it's slow and barely any shooters. Then there's days where it's raining and cold and we have a line out the gate. Our shotgun line can get backed up, quick, since we only have 3 shooting positions. We have over 30 positions on the pistol line and 17 positions on the rifle line.
If you're off on Fridays, that would be your best chance at a not so crowded day. We're open from 11am to 4pm every Friday.
Saturdays and Sundays... All I can says is if you want a guaranteed spot, be there when we open at 8am on either of those days.
