How long should it take deer to find a new feeder?

Just bought a 60 acre clear cut with swamps and planted pines surrounding it. To my knowledge almost no one hunts the surrounding square mile so I think there will be some quality bucks traveling through the clear cut browsing. I set up 2 gravity/pvc corn feeders on each end of the property this past weekend and threw some pears all around it. Any idea how long it will take the deer to find it?

They'll find it pretty quick

24-48 hours, if deer are moving through the area. Are you in Bama?

I live in Bama but the land is in Florida just below the Alabama line.

It's already been said, but it shouldn't take long. Probably around a day or two. You could get a couple packs of grape kool aid and dump on the corn. The sweet smell will attract them and then they will definetly know where the corn is.

They'll find it pretty quick if they're in the area. I may take a lot longer for them to get comfortable with the feeders though. Try just throwing corn like chicken feed. Deer are browsers and they are more comfortable with it that way.

Yea I scattered a good bit of corn all around the feeder hoping one would stumble upon it. I have a camera set up on one of them but won't be able to come back to check on the results for another 3 weeks.

If I get any pics of a nice buck I will be sure to post them. There are not as many deer in this area as there are in other places, but there are advantages to this. Fewer deer = less hunters, more food, less hunting pressure, older deer, and a more balanced buck/doe ratio. The rut should be a ton of fun overlooking this clear cut.

Did you scout it out and put the feeders where there were trails and other sign or did you just go find a tree to put them on a hope they'd come to you?

A few new guys did this last year, in good areas, and weren't very successful just because stand and feeder placement was terrible.

I put one next to a rub I found from last year. The other is in the woods next to a food plot I am making. With this being a recently logged clear cut, there are not many trails or other signs that you would normally look for.

Under a week generally. Did you put any cameras out?

Yeah I didn't read the entire thread. I think you'll be surprised when you see pics. Just don't be shocked if you see more does then bucks on camera.

I fully expect that to be the case. My hope is to get a bunch of does traveling all over the place and when the rut comes, those big boys living in the swamps will come out of hiding and I can get one overlooking this clear cut.

I put out a new feeder earlier this year and had deer on the camera at that feeder that afternoon.

*Feeder was placed near heavy game trail.

If deer are in the area, they can find it in a day or so. You'll have to keep it full if you want deer that don't normally travel that path to find it.

I'm hoping the feeders will be fairly effective since it is mostly pines in the area and there should not be a lot of acorns.

You think 2 feeders with a 40 pound bag in each should last 3 weeks with below average to average deer population?

Highly doubt that will last 3 weeks . Especially in piney woods property
