It is from last winter, forgot that it was in the bottom of the deep freezer.

It's fine as long as it isn't freezer burned.

I reheated a gumbo from last year a few weeks ago and it was great. As long as it doesn't show freezer burn it should be fine. I reheat frozen gumbo at the camp often.

Any kind of soup or stew stays good for a very long time in a frozen state.

Mrs. Vette, who is the best gumbo cooker in the world (and obviously a woman of extreme tolerance), says no longer than 3 months. It will start to lose flavor after that.
She also says heat it up slowly, esp. if you have file' in it.

Last week I had the last batch of my first ever gumbo. It was cooked 12 months ago and it was as good as the day after I cooked it. The first batches that I reheated (within months) needed a little water added. The last batch recently reheated had too much water without adding any. I just let it simmer longer to evap and added file.
BTW - my frozen gumbo was in tupperware and reheated on low in a skillet. My recipe has no file when cooked, its added at the table when serving.

gumbo will last for years in the freezer....as the others say, the only thing to look out for is if there is some meat sticking out of the juice, it will get freezer burned. if there is any freezer burn, just cut it off before thawing or it will frick up the whole pot...

Many months- up to a year, for sure.

Tip for freezing gumbo or soup:
Take saran wrap and place on top of the liquid and press onto liquid surface to get all air out, then just snap lid and freeze....no freezer burn.
Also, drop the container into a sink of water ( not over the lid in case of leaks) and let sit. It will thaw in at least half the time if not sooner. Works with a frozen turkey as well. Thaws quick!

Why i scoop it into ziplocks. you can squeeze it to where there is no air. Plus it stacks great and you can have a bunch in the freezer.

As long as it stays below 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

Forever, and it tastes better IMO.
